I have the gloss black Nerf steps and the paint is peeling. I assume something hit it (aka one of its jobs). Has anyone used Rust-Oleum gloss black paint on them? It's either that or I need to take them off and get them repainted from scratch. They lasted a year at least :).

My N-Fab's are rusting heavily. I have sanded down the rusted areas and used rust reconverter and then Rustoleum but they are still rusting. I will just keep touching up until its time to part ways and get something else but they are just steps for the truck so not anything mission critical

I only have rust where I had drug them across rocks. I need to touch them up. Still pretty satisfied with them.

I put the nFab nerf steps on my '21 right after I got it.
Within a couple months they were rusting. I wire brushed the bad spots, hit 'em with cold spray galvanizing, and then the finish coat.
They lasted until last spring, when I reported the rust to nFab.
nFab sent another set, and the replacements were a mess: very poorly finished. nFab told me to keep them, and sent another set, which I then treated with cold spray galvanizing, paint, and then some undercoating!
We'll see how they hold up this winter.

Anyway, I can't really answer your question, as mine are matte finished.

Mine are still going strong after couple years with exception of trail damage scratches I never dealt with.

For a quick repair job, just try to find some of the automotive paint spray can stuff that matches close to the finish of yours.

When time comes that I start seeing it rust enough to bother me, I will take it off and will end up redoing the whole step. Nothing close to professional mind you, just some hand sander sanding, clean up and applying some automotive spray can stuff for a few coats with a clear coat over it.
