Need some help with wheels and tires

Ok,
If it sounds like I don’t know what I am talking about, it’s because I mostly don’t, so take it easy on me. I have a 2021 Gladiator with a 4 inch ready lift and falcon shocks on 38x13.5 Nitto Grapplers with black rhino 20x12’s with a -44 offset. I love how aggressive it is but it’s not exactly conducive for as much as I am driving it. I would like to go down to 37’s and I don’t want such a large offset…I mean she’s a looker but I am driving it too much and worried about the front end. Also it’s been regeared from 4.88 to 5.13.

I have been looking and learning but I guess I just need a bit of advice on what to get. Should I go with 18 or 20in wheels, and if I do that how wide should the tire be? I like the was the 18’s look but idk about the width then. I have done a bit of wheeling but she’s pretty wide to go on trails around here. Anyway, thanks in advance to any help.

This is no help but if it were me I would leave the Jeep as it is and get a KIA or Subaru to drive around. Nice looking rig. I am envious.

If you do want to go down to 37’s, I would suggest 17 inch wheels, lots of options at that size with all different offsets/backspacing.

I agree with Deadpool, 17s has a bigger tire selection than 18s or 20s which means they’ll be cheaper. Don’t go wider than 9” if you can, I run 17x8.5 with a -6 offset and I like it.

Most 37s are 12.50 wide.

I'd pick the tires you want first and then see what sizes they come in.

Would you mind telling me the benefits of let’s say a 9.5 vs a 12? I live in East TN. I don’t get on trails often but I would like to occasionally. Mostly my daily driver right now.

The wider wheels will usually be heavier, and will require more negative offset. But, if you like more tire poke, or the bro-dozer look, then go with the wider. For better performance on and offroad, go with the 9.5".

Wide vs narrow is an old debate that has never been solved.

Narrow cuts down, wide floats. Narrow has a smaller contact patch, but wide puts down less pressure per square inch.

Wide is generally better on sand, but I've seen rigs with 11.50 wide Boggers run circles around other rigs with wider tires.

Narrower should get you slightly better MPG. Narrower should hydroplane less. But between 11.50 and 12.50, I'm not sure if it's enough to matter. I think the better reasoning for choosing narrow tires is if you want the tires tucked or if you're trying to fit them to stock wheels.

Why do you want to down in tire size? Do you plan to go back when you are off-road? Do you have the large brake kit on? If so you likely have to stay with an 18" rim, if not drop down to 17" as others have said.
