What do you do out there if you don’t mind me asking? I used to work Flowback and Production Testing.
I’m a Mwd in drilling services… aka measuring while drilling… I help poke holes. Lol

Sooooo, one last THANK YOU to you all for all the answers and new knowledge!

I did come to a decision and had the BFG’s swapped out today for Falken AT3’s based on recommendations/research/and being able to get them locally from a family owned business that did business with my company this summer (Golden Business Rule #1 purchases are my favorite kind to make).

I did try and find the Kendras, but was unable to source those in right sizes.

In point of fact, Falken doesn’t make the Wildpeak AT3 in the 255/75/R17 size that came on the Willy’s (maybe why Wildpeak isn’t standard OEM on it?). I had to go to 265/70/R17 to get them on my ride (and be in stock).

As this is ND, I’m sure I won’t have to wait long to find out if you all pointed my in the right direction?!

Ummmm, new, but related question. Being as I changed tire sizes/dimensions…what do I have to do to true up my speedometer/mpg/etc???

I barely remembered I needed 5 tires instead of 4, didn’t even think of changed dimensions?.

Tazer, procal, jscan, or dealership. Other than I guess California, the jeep dealerships will recalibrate it. There was a thread on here somewhere where California dealers were no longer allowed to recalibrate. My local dealer charges $150 for what they call a "software recalibration code" from jeep. I have a tazer, but if your jeep dealer is similar to mine, give the service department a call, and see if they can do it, and how much it'll be. It might actually be your cheapest option.

JScan is much less money than Tazer if that is all you need to do.

I'm planning to buy a used tire the same size as my upgraded tire off of ebay. You can find used 35s for as little as about $100 shipped. Put it on the stock steel spare and you have a resized spare for under $150.

I doubt you will need to change the programing for your new tires, by the math the new tires are .46" shorter than the originals, IMO, not worth the trouble to have it done or purchase equipment to do it.
I have used Superchips Flashcal and AEV Snap, both have worked well, you can find the AEV Snap for sale pretty reasonably on this forum or the JL forum if just changing your tire size is all you want to do.

I have never heard that a few 32nds of an inch could actually cause a problem, I understand the theory of how it could but hard to believe it actually would even with true awd like in a Subaru.
Yeah, I bellieve AWD vehicles are more sensitive to tire OD mismatch.

I'd never thought of using this service for that purpose. My dad and I have used it when buying race tires. That what its original purpose is. But your idea is pretty smart.

I hit a chunk of something at night on the highway with my wife's Volvo last year. I measured the tread depth and was able to find one with the same amount of tread used on ebay. I got lucky.
Yup. I had to do this on my old G37xs when I was hit. Tire needed replacement. I ordered a replacement from Tirerack for the one tire after telling them how much tread depth I needed. Body shop was shocked, they didn't know this service existed either.

What race car are you runnin?

So fun fact I found out today…my local Jeep dealer called after I dropped off Nacho to inform me that “ Mopar doesn’t have calibrations for less than 33” tires, and yours are only 31.5”, so we can’t do anything for you today “. Suggested I look at buying Tazer, and I could come get my truck anytime.

So I’m not going to lie, not 100% sure they’re telling me the truth as it seems very odd they can’t go below 33” as the Willy’s ships with even smaller tires than I switched too!

Going to go back to where i bought tires to see what an update for their equipment to do my 2021 model would cost them and just buy it for them if they’ll properly flash/install it for me. They were hesitant originally as they only had software through 2020 models currently.

I really don’t have an urge to plug in something that can potentially totally screw up my vehicle with me at the controls?

Get a procal, if all you want to do is tires. Much less screwup-able, since all it does is tires. Unfortunately, they look to be having chip issues right now.

Jscan should do the trick too. Just need a Bluetooth obdii reader and a security cable from Amazon.

Update on Falken AT3 Tires:

These tires have been fantastic since getting them swapped out!!!

1. Much quieter than BF A/T KM’s on every surface!

2. Much better road grip on dry/wet/and certainly icy or snowy roads!!

3. Breaking in city driving more confident as well. No skidding or sliding from the MT rated BF’s if a little dirt/winter sand on the paved surface.

We finally got some real snowfall, followed by warmer weather, so freeze/thaw cycles leaving icy conditions.

I can get around in 2Hi for the most part with judicious use of the throttle (and I think the fact I have Diesel helps with smoother take offs), and stopping is pretty solid as well. That’s with zero added weight in the truck bed, which I’m sure would only add to the traction.

When I put Nacho into 4 Hi on the same road surface, I think I could give a Yeti a run for his money! I have never had “just” an all season tires give me such traction and confidence. Holy Mother of Batman can I move out with the Falkens! How the eff are these not standard on every trim up to a Mojave??? These things are 100% perfect for this vehicle!!!

i don’t know what they’ll look like on the wife’s Volvo XC 60 , but I can tell you right now they might very well end up as her next set of tires?.

Worth. Every.Penny.

This is great news since I sold be picking up my Mojave soon with these tires and I can't find any snow tires that I want in the size that I want. I may have to wait until next year for the snows.

I can't even begin to imagine how cold it must be in ND. I go there pheasant hunting in Oct/Nov and in the 10 days we are there, the temps seem to drop 20 degrees. We stay in Almont and Glen Ellen.

That’s within 30 minutes of me in Bismarck…it’s cold, but the wind is what really kills you’r you in the end?.

I don’t drive any sand, so not sure how Falken would do there, but the rest of the surfaces rock! I saw a Falken MT, but didn’t look like it has nearly the siping.

Tires that are 3pmsf rated are generally really good in the snow, I don’t think the MTs have that rating.
