We posted an introduction to announce the product while in development several months ago in our vendor section. Our pictures and videos are currently using the pre-production test mule, but we are getting close to the official launch, which we are estimating is April. We will update with new pictures and video once a final production set is on our shop Rubicon.
We wanted to start a new thread here, to both formally announce, and also have a technical thread for questions or discussions regarding our new Cross Terrain steps.
The are or have been a few removable step products that are at the rail level, but never a drop down option. That is due to the unbelievably complex nature of clamping onto the unique, asymmetrical design and curvature of the factory rail. We originally made our first tester at the end of 2023, which hung on the rail and utilized a bracket that bolted onto the frame. During our testing, we found this design to be inferior for 2 reasons:
1) While the steps were very stable and secure with downward pressure from a person standing on them, they were not nearly as robust with upward pressure from below.
2) By securing a lower bracket to the vehicle, you are limited as to where the steps can go. While it is a bit less of an issue for rail height steps, it can be awkward for drop down steps, both aesthetically and functionally.
Therefore, we spent the next year developing and refining our patent pending-clamp design/drop down system for the first ever drop down step available for factory (traditional style) rock slider rails.
Sold in sets of 2 or 4, Cross Terrain Steps feature a 4.5-inch drop below the slider and a full 12-inch drop below the top of the door sill. This makes it the most helpful entry and exit aid of any removable step option for factory rails. Additionally, they can be placed absolutely anywhere along the full length of the rail.
Functional but not in the way, the step portion is 5.5 inches wide, but only sticks out 3.25 inches beyond the rail. Not everyone needs a step, so those that don't won't need to dodge it or have dirt rubbed on them getting in or out if not using them.
