I found the electrical connectors on Jeeps even in the 1990s were water resistant, even water proof. Rubber seals seal the connector halves, the wires are sealed going in. You could put them under water and not have an issue............... but pressure can blow by those seals if hit just wrong.This is essentially what the Jeep service technician/mechanic told me. The new engine bay contents are designed to withstand pressure washing, just not where the nozzle is close to connections/wiring. I believe the user manual addresses cleaning the engine bay also
I saved a few of those connectors when I stripped the ZJ engine bay and have used them for other projects here and there.
Rubber seals around the wire where the terminal crimps on, sealing the wire in the shell, and the shells themselves had ribbed rubber seals where they slide together.
Mud in the alternator, that's another matter. There's a guy here who can tell all about that.
