As kids we used to say "if you don't get out of Freehold, you will die here".
Oh no, haha! That's what I was afraid of :)

Raceway Mall is still there...although it was just hanging on by a thread just a few months ago. A lot of the big anchor stores are gone, and it looks like they will now be turning a big part of it into an indoor sports center. Dick's bought them out and plans to put in rock walls, indoor golf type stuff, etc. Oddly enough, it's seen a resurgence over the holidays. Apparently, all the Gen Z kids think it's "kinda cool"...including my HS aged kids. Everything is retro; it always comes back.

The Raceway Park itself is still up...but probably only until a developer gets approval to tear down and build. I've only seen a horse race there once in my life (since 1981). Raceway Park was more of the place we used to go watch July 4th fireworks if we stayed local...but I'm still sad to see it go!

As for FTHS - I actually coach a youth rec track and field program there, so I have a connection to the school. I'm there 2-3 days a week 9 months out of the year. If you don't mind me asking, what year did you graduate? I didn't go to FTHS, but I grew up in the town...so I had a lot of friends at FTHS and FHS.

This is a little off subject, but thought you Freehold guys would want to know; I just came from Freehold Jeep to get some parts for my father-in-law's Grand Cherokee. The parts guy told us that they were just told the dealership is closing within the month. I'm not sure why.

I actually just heard about this yesterday. Crazy. That dealership has been there for a long time. Hope it's not a general sign of things to come.

I graduated in 83,. I'm an old man. Family lived on Buckingham if that helps. First name is, and will always be, "John".
Bought my first Jeep, after the Marines, somewhere on Rt99 in Manalapan.
Did all my underage drinking at Morre's in Freehold, before they moved it, and of course Ye Ole Silver Tavern, before it was scrapped, rebuilt, and reopened. So many stories about those places.
My friends father used to race trotters at the old track. His nickname was "The Jersey Slasher" and was constantly in trouble for holding horses back. Cheating i think they called it.

Hey all, recent re-transplant back to NJ from San Diego. When we left NJ 18 years ago we were living in East Windsor. Now we are back and settling in Toms River. See y’all out there!
