I'm a musician....I do a lot of gigs and recording and audio production and play in five bands and travel and I also repair, restore, rebuild and collect vintage amps. I have a few. This is just some of it.

Some awesome hobbies here! For me, it's all about woodworking β€” there’s something so satisfying about turning raw lumber into something functional or decorative. It’s like therapy, but with sawdust. πŸ˜„ I recently built a custom tool chest for my garage and am already planning my next project: a live-edge coffee table. Anyone else here into woodworking or building things? Would love to swap tips!
I'm not much of a woodworker, especially considering many others projects.
13 Jan. 2023 I did a small woodworking project, 12.6 x26 ft "cabin" finished the main part 25 July 23. Then a front porch and roof over then enclosed it with railing and screening.
A few weeks back before that cold weather I decided to start on the counter.

As I'm quite willing to say I'm not a artist with woodworking, but functional.

….. it’s not just about β€˜the vacuum’ that holds the lid. It’s a whole science to it.

You process the foods a certain way - by Water bath method (212 degrees) or Pressure Canning (260 degrees). The process you use is based on the acidity of the foods.

The goal is to process the food at the proper temperature at the proper amount of time to kill the bacteria and botulism spores (and anything else) that are contained within. This allows the foods to be shelf stable and safe to eat.
πŸ˜‰
My Grandmother's aunts canned, and one Grandmother actually canned fish years ago. Had many fish patties in my early childhood.

Firearms are one of my "hobbies" that I pursue quite regularly. Here are a few of my hobby helpers:
I happen to have a few similar interests and ones like them.
2 of the Ruger MK2, with one it upset a gun dealer when I got the barrel threaded for a suppressor. The other I found as almost new in box standard/field grade. Why it was sold off that way was the fixed sights were no where point of aim, it got a Pac-Lite barrel. I kinda got into collecting stamps for a few years. Along with some Form 1's.
I'd like to have the newer version Ruger, but I already have a few MK-2 magazines.

Not sure if I could do the top picture thing anymore though. The lower one is about as effective as the M-1 carbine is in accuracy to, but can be fairly quiet.
On the 308 stuff I got a few bad batches of it from a few different sources. 6-10 years back. Three rifles didn't do well, I had brass from one case embedded in shooting glasses lens along with ringing ears. Different manufacturers on all three rifles and ammunition.

A few wood projects I did for Christmas gifts for my friend and his grandkids last year.
Nice looking boxes.

As one of the popular interwebz woodworkers says, furniture making is all about making boxes. Furniture is ultimately just different sized boxes with different features, like shelves or drawers, etc. In that spirit, for the last few months I have been trying different techniques for making boxes before I try to tackle something really big.

Forgive me for the rest of this post but I don't belong to any woodworking forums, so this is going to be my outlet today...LOL

My wife loves the whole woodworking thing too so she is always finding wood that she likes and then we try to design something she wants. She found a nice live edge scrap of something and wanted to make a shelf out of it; but it didn't work out. With that nice piece of wood just hanging around now, I decided to try some box techniques I hadn't done before, such as finger joints and shaping, and it resulted in this little beauty which I think she wants to set potted plants in now:

Then, not unlike @Blade1668 did, I made my middle daughter a jewelry box for a Christmas gift. This time I played with intricate glue ups to make the lid, finger joints again and the first time using barrel hinges. These were all scraps leftover from building my plane till:

But my current project is pushing all kinds of limits. My wife LOVES olive wood (and I do too but it is a pain to hand plane) and she bought a slab with no particular plan for it. So I had it re-sawn, then book-matched the resulting panels:
Jeep Gladiator Other obsessions and hobbies or other. πŸ™ƒ JewelryBox1.JPG

With this, I'm building her a waterfall jewelry box where the grain flows up the front across the top and down the back:
Jeep Gladiator Other obsessions and hobbies or other. πŸ™ƒ JewelryBox2.JPG

In order to get the "best" waterfall effect, the edges have to be joined with miters. But miters aren't the strongest joinery; so I routed matching grooves in all the miters so the I could add hidden splines for strength. You can see them in this pic if you zoom in:
Jeep Gladiator Other obsessions and hobbies or other. πŸ™ƒ JewelryBox3.JPG

I glued all of that together yesterday and today I made the bottom and it's in glue now:
Jeep Gladiator Other obsessions and hobbies or other. πŸ™ƒ JewelryBox4.JPG

Tomorrow, I'll saw it in half(ish) to create the lid and the main box and then I'll start lining it with some really dark walnut. Still not sure what hinges I'll be using but I'll post a pic once it's all sorted.

WOW!!! I'll bet that one was quite the hair raiser. The worst I've had is having a bullet from a factory load lodge halfway down the barrel of my Beretta M9A1. Ultimately, I think the shell just didn't have any powder in it, or at least very little or degraded powder. But, man, for a second I thought the gun had just blown up in my hands. Phew.

Dang nice work there, good to see anyone add anything as a general purpose thread. I built the 5 boxes without any plans just what looked somewhat OK. Mostly with basic hand tools. Most of the corners are hand carved with pocket knives until I started seeing how much time the first one took.

Like I said I'm not even to the level of a hack compared to your projects. My power tools is limited to circular saws, one that was my father's that's well over 30-40 years old. No table saw.... yet.

2 AR-10 type rifles and one solid bolt action screwed up. The bolt action rifle blown out extractor and brass in lens of shooting glasses and few pieces in face if I remember correctly.

Brother, keep going! I have only been doing this for abut 4 months; I am retired so I get to spend more time than most do in the shop. Power tools aren't the key to it all. In fact, I don't have a jointer, planer and only bought a small jobsite table saw just before Christmas. Other than cutting that olive wood panel into the requisite pieces need to make the box, it's all been hand planes, chisels and sanding blocks. The miters on those panels were all done with hand planes on a shooting board that I made. The grooves were made with a little DeWalt trim router.

The most important thing, like any hobby, is to just get out there and make a thing.

I'm "semi"-retired myself for last 2 years, or so now.

Just like buying Jeep parts, my wife benefits from my buying woodworking tools. She can't really argue with that, lol.

You two and your woodworking projects - makes my stuff look like 8th grade shop class.

Anyone want to finish 16 raised panel cabinet doors for me? My wife has been waiting 8 years for them. I put up wall-to-wall, floor to ceiling shelves on 2 walls of her quilting room, got a couple of doors finished and on - and that was that........

One of my wife's quilting friend, a 7x year old lady who used to collect stamps back in the 60s through 80s apparently heard from my wife that I collected stamps. So, I get this big bag of stamps - a thousand or so, big mixture of new and pretty old, some even in USPS envelopes from when she bought them. Then came another batch a couple of weeks later, full sheets, panels, etc. - and then a big box with the book she had used and many dozens more stamps. Weeks later I'm STILL not even close to caught up merging them into my collection. I had to expand my binders from 3 USA and 1 foreign to 6 USA, 1 larger foreign, and another for first day covers, post cards and so on.

It's also nice when two hobbies sort of overlap as seen in the pony car set.

Can't forget the coins - I like to gather some old coins from various countries, some, like USSR, no longer exist.
My main concentration is US coins, nothing worth a heck of a lot, but fun hunting.
The US stuff is pretty much put away in books.
