Tough not being able to do Imogene but the area needs the snow pack. Glad I did it a couple of years ago.

We talked to a Ranger when we went there a few years ago and I asked him how those dozer operators know where the road was and he just laughed and said the crew have been working together for something like 30 years and could find the road in their sleep!

Here’s a pic when we did it in my F-350 and pop up camper!

I went as high as I could on Imogene yesterday, as it happens. The Ouray-side bulldozer crews had just finished plowing to the summit as I arrived. It may be plowed, but that doesn’t mean it’s driveable. One particular steep stretch was wet ice in between the rocks, and despite 4 locked tires and a good bit of momentum, I slid backwards with wheels spinning forward at that point 3-4 times. Then gave up. Nothing more to do but wait for the sun to melt it some more. Or chain up all four to climb the last 800 feet of vert to the summit for bragging rights

The telluride side, I heard from someone that San Miguel County depleted their snow removal budget so they just stopped. Imogene, Black Bear, Ophir may never open to drive through this year. Just depends on the sun and snowmelt now
