I was on the fence between north tints and invisible mask recently (both offered Avery and 3M). I'm pretty OCD and mistakenly assumed this was something that as long as I took my time, the results would be great. That plus the folks I took a previous car made it look very easy. The issue was it was costly and I promised myself I'd try to do it myself next time.

The last attempt was on our 23' F150. It was an utter disaster and a complete waste of money. I still have 85% of the kit sitting in my shop. YMMV but I've chalked it up to one of those things that take a great deal of experience and talent. The F150 ended up going to a local installer after wasting money on a kit. Once again the pros made it look too easy.

I told the installer that I tried it myself before bringing it in and he said my first mistake was ordering a kit. He said its far easier to lay in bulk rather than attempt to stretch a pre-cut piece into place. That made a TON of sense. I doubt I'll ever try again but if I did I'd avoid anything pre-cut. I learned that hardly any respectable PPF installers use pre-cut kits. You'd think it would save so much time but it really constrains you. Unfortunately it's one of those things I had to learn the hard and expensive way.
