But then it's people like this that are the reason for the high premiums and denied claims. Or is it the people in the insurance companies setting the environment for big profit?
Big profit LOL - ok, so if a company just does so-so profits, will you tell your 401K manager to stay invested, or move your investments elsewhere?

Insurance companies are ordinary people - most working there don't make what many forum members make. As far as the higher-ups, yes, they do better, but then they must also keep the company profitable otherwise people like you and me will pull out our investments and go to a company where we can have better returns.

I do blame the people who game the system. Fraud is a huge reason for our costs being what they are. Seeing the last 2 or 3 years is pointing that out quite bluntly. there's a lot more fraud than you'd realize.
Having worked for a major company, and my brother having been connected to the industry in other ways for decades - I guess I know things from the inside.

I'm sick of paying higher premiums because of clowns playing the system - I was hurt, maybe I can get a little more cash for some toys.

It's no game, but people treating it that way are a big part of the problem.
And coming out in public and admitting by asking "how much did you get" and "how much can I expect" and gee, I hope it's enough to buy me some toys.

I'm afraid you opened a can of sh#$ with this post. Most mature and responsible people are pissed off with with this happening and unfortunately it's out of control and the only thing that we can do is not be a part of the problem. I have too much pride to go to a lawyer just to get a payout for accessories.

Reminds me of another song "don't hate the player, hate the game."
There is no game without opposing players.

It almost appears as if you are saying "because they are out to maximize profits, it's ok to rip them off now and then".
"yeah, but the other kids are doing it" never flew with me.
Yeah, I hate the players because at least one side has control over what THEY do.

I'll add a consideration that I hadn't seen it covered. Some insurance companies will not pay out to a claim directly to the other party unless they hold title to the damaged property. So, if it is a loan or a lease, you may have a difficult time getting a check directly from the insurance company if they argue their obligation to the lien holder to return the vehicle to it's prior state or something like that.

I have experienced this first hand with an adjuster, but once I asserted that I did hold title and preferred to be in control of the repair process there wasn't a problem. To be blunt, I was in a miserable passenger side front end / t-boned type of accident which was a strain in terms of time, pain and inconvenience. So, I simply did not have any interest in asking any type of permission on how I would be made whole once they knew the nature of the accident and had full access to a detailed quote, pictures and the ability to inspect in person. For what it's worth, I had an XLT that I had owned since new and wanted to make some slight modifications to give it a blended look of an XLT / STX and simply didn't want any complications for what was already an unfortunate situation.

I was 100% fair and legal and just figured if life gave me lemons that I'd make lemonade. Oh and by the way, the bodyshop manager was completely comfortable with me paying with my credit card. So, it was a great chance to rack up some points.

Almost all lenders have that provision - they must be named loss payee on the insurance. They get paid first and if you have equity in it, it goes from there. But for the first few months they will likely get pretty much all of it or at least a large majority of it.

Got myself in a fender bender that wasn't my fault. 16 year old turned in front of me. I've already got a new Mopar steel bumper and winch ready to install. Almost put it on last weekend, but decided to procrastinate a little and now I should be getting some insurance money. Has anybody had a similar wreck? How much did insurance pay out? Obviously my neck and back hurt so I should get a little extra, but I'm hoping I'll have enough for a Mopar 2" lift and some 35" tires.

If you are truly hurt then I recommend this. First thing first…get an attorney. They will make the whole process easier for you, and also keep you from getting screwed. I was in a wreck (not my fault) a bit worse than you. My wife and myself were both very sore after the wreck. We tried to push through the soreness. It got worse over time. We then went to get an attorney a couple of weeks after the wreck, and the insurance company wouldn’t help us. There was nothing the attorneys could do…too much time had passed. This was what we were told by consulting numerous attorneys. The whole thing was a nightmare to deal with. We both still sometimes have pain from that wreck. Insurance is out for themselves and their interests, not for you or your interests.

My wife's sister is still suffering the ill-effects of an accident 30 years ago - it affected her neck and back and it's a forever thing. Pain, discomfort, sleeping issues. The thing is that it was all settled years ago, so now she has to spring for any doctor visits or treatments of any sort. It's another reason to not collect a bunch of cash and spend it on toys - the effects may sock it to you later.
She felt fine for a while - so figured it was all fine.

Yes sir. I feel bad for your sister-in-law. That is exactly what I’m talking about. An attorney is there for your interests (and of course theirs-money), no one in the insurance industry is. You’re just a It can take a lot of time and money to get things straight. Sometimes, no matter what people don’t or can’t ever get completely healed properly.
