So do you just send that in to be programmed? Then install when you get it back?
No.

First, you don’t have to have a spare ECU. It’s completely optional, you can flash back to stock at anytime with your MPVI in a couple of minutes.

If you do want a spare ECU, do it in this order:

-Purchase new ECU
-Take Jeep to dealer with new ECU in hand.
-Have current ECU updated by dealer first, then have them install the new unit and program it with the same OS as the original updated unit
-Take either ECU and send it to HP Tuners for unlocking if your GPEC5 (top mounted connectors-newer Jeeps) or any trusted company that does GPEC2A (side connectors, older models).

Hope this helps.

What are you seeing as a typical turn around time for HP Tuners to unlock an ECM?
It’s been all over the place. Mine was 3 business days. From time I shipped (overnight) to time I got mine back was 5 total days. But I’m in Illinois only 5 hours away from HP Tuners HQ. Some customers it’s taken two weeks.

If your GPEC2A ECU (side connectors) there are tons of shops all over the country that can unlock those and have sometimes same day turn around. For these customers, I recommend Google searching “GPEC2A unlock near me” and doing some research.

Mine was 10 working days from the moment they received it, Shipping time depends how you send yours I sent mine next day delivery plus Insurance $95 (In case USPS loose the item 🙄) and HP TUNERS sent it next day delivery UPS. And BMP Calibration is faster than a
lightning doing his tune 😂.

Stellantis puts out a product that satisfies 85 percent of drivers. It’s the other 15 percent like me who realize faults or things that could have been done better. It’s no different than putting bigger wheels and tires on a Jeep. Do you need it? Why didn’t Jeep just do it from the get go? Same philosophy. Just a different side of automotive customization.

If you ever get to experience driving a vehicle stock and then driving the same vehicle that has been professionally custom tuned, you’ll see what I mean
Hi, I'm sorry I didn't make my earlier point/question clearer. I was asking if Stellantis can tune everything to get 10-20 hp more, forget the 85% who don't care, but if the only difference in getting the increased hp is just a tune, wouldn't the marketing people beg for it? When the side-by-side comparisons are done between vehicles, I cannot believe that hp is not a significant factor. What would they have to lose? The mall crawlers would never know or care.

The program got to a limbo point and flat squirrel happened. No one could decide if performance or ultra low emissions was the goal so the engine calibration and hardware is stuck in limbo. A tune can help but not a silver bullet.
