What is everyone doing about inner seals when doing gears? My guy said it was good to have inner seals in case one tore. Dealer said inners came with axle shaft assembly. Can not find them for rear axle (d44 m220) This is on a ‘21 Mojave. Any help would be appreciated.

There may be some terminology misunderstanding. The rear axle does not have inner seals, they are outer seals. The seals are #5 in the below illustration, which are supplied as part of the complete shaft assy #1.

This is the front axle. The seals are #3 #5 in diagram. The rear has them in the #5 location only. Plus the outers by the bearings

I'm not sure what you mean by this. The rear only has outer seals by the axle shaft bearings. There are no seals in the same area as the #5 position on the front axle.

If you are asking about "rear inner axle seals", they do not exist, but maybe I don't understand what your question is.

No Dana I've ever worked on had anything other than the one seal unless you count the AMC differentials which they later sold the rights to to Dana.
But those bearings were packed and isolated from the hypoid lube in the differential housing.
If there was an "inner seal" then the bearings would not get lube.

Be careful about "dealers" and "my guys".
Dealers even thought you needed an extra wiring harness to install a trailer brake controller. The parts guys insisted it was necessary.
