The Red Rock 4-Wheelers ended the 2024 series of Trail of the Month rides with a spectacular day running the one of Moab’s most famous trails, Poison Spider Mesa. Saturday, November 16th, greeted the participants with a mottled sky and invigorating 53 degrees, perfect weather for a day on the trail. 21 participants began the excursion but sadly we lost one vehicle at the second obstacle. Not due to any trail mishaps, but rather an electrical failure. A temporary fix was applied and he made it back down off trail for a permanent fix.
The rest of the group continued on with the scheduled plan for the day. About a third of our group in this trip had not been on Poison Spider prior. This made for a great experience for them as they tackled some of the more infamous obstacles in the Moab area. The Wedge, The Steps and The Waterfall make for some white knuckle moments for first timers.
The Wedge is a great obstacle for what lies ahead. Our group had no problems with it, we even had a member wanted to send a Jeep Wedge Wave to all of our readers out here on the forums.
The scenery on this trail is some of the best in Moab. We were greeted with grand vistas highlighting the Behind the Rocks area, the La Sal Mountains and the Portal area to the west.
Our lunch break was at Little Arch, 1,000 feet above the Colorado River below. And if you’re in the right spot Little Arch gets the focus on the trail head for Moab Rim, just across the river.
With our club focus on family fun 4-wheeling we even had a few of the future 4-wheelers with us. Even they were impressed with a view that can’t be matched by AI or video games.
We also had the biggest kid we know on the trail with us and he brought his Tonka Truck. It was quite a sight all day as we watched this behemoth traverse the many obstacles.
As participants got as comfortable with the trail as they could the spicy line was often the route of the day over most obstacles.
It is regularly noted that a picture is worth a thousand words. To that end I am going to just give you a few more pictures that encapsulate our day for your enjoyment.
While this trail is known for its obstacles and inspiring vistas I am often drawn to the little things it offers. On the bypass for the Steps, it presents you with two small arches right next to the trail.
Our trip ended with all making it safely off the trail with many new friendships formed and old ones renewed. I think all of us are looking forward to next years’ Trail of the Month adventures! And we hope you enjoy our final group photo of the year, taken from above some of the greatest scenery on earth!!!
