Im far from needing new tires but I am just curious. Does anyone know of a decent highway tire that will still give me traction in the sand and snow? I drive on my local beach a LOT and have always had traditional AT tires. Theyre quiet and all but I am wondering if I can gain a little mpg with less aggressive treads.

Currently running 285/70/17 Treadwright Wardens. Used them for years and I know they work.

Really just curious

Aren’t Wardens BFG T/A knock-offs?

Yeah except they're louder, taller, and heavier. The remolding process adds 8-12 lbs per tire and about 1" of diameter. I used to run Treadwright tires exclusively but stopped when the prices matched new tires.

I'd recommend the Cooper AT3. It's a very mild, lightweight AT that's barely more aggressive than a HT. You'll pick up a little performance and MPGs switching to those.

Aggressive tread patterns, like an A/T or M/T aren't necessarily ideal for sand or hard packed snow conditions (deep snow is different) so a semi-aggressive all-terrain may be a good option for you to explore. Even a highway terrain model like the Michelin Defender LTX M/S may an option as the tighter tread pattern floats well on sand and does well on packed snow due to high sipe density.

Would you mind guessing how the Michelin Defender LTX M/S 275/75R18 (51 lbs) Load Range E would behave on something light weight like Gladiator. I do minimal off roading and care more about ride harshness and snow traction. I also want the larger size but they are only available in E's. If I air down to the 36 psi that the Gladiator recommends, would they ride better than say 285/70R17 Fallken Wildpeak AT (64 lbs) Load Range C?

Sounds like you might want H/T tires, like what Jeep puts on the Overland trim. It's one step below A/T in terms of aggressive tread. You will absolutely still be able to get on the beach and light trails, no problem. But what you gain, is a little more comfort. One the road, steering tightens up a bit, and they are typically quieter at higher speeds.

Edit:
Just thought of another thing...braking distance is improved with HT over AT normally since it's one step closer to a 100% road tire. I've even seen tests that it handles better in the rain too.

I would like to assume that you might get a bump in MPG, but if that were the case, I would think Jeep would have different stats for the Overland vs. Rubicon. But it's the same MPG. So who knows. Maybe it's a 1/4 MPG gain. Not a reason to buy it. But all the safety and comfort reasons are definitely a selling point if you spend 99% of your time on the highway.

Not a "Highway Tire" more Hybrid than anything else.

I have the 35s. Only had them for about 600 miles but like them so far.

AND... Severe Snow Rated
