Ok guys I ordered my 2021 Granite Gray Gladiator diesel on Saturday, Rubicon with the trail rail system and spray in bed liner. It is coming with a soft tonneau cover (some reason the dealership couldn’t order the trifold hard one)

There are two immediate add ons I wanna do:

Roll Bar in the bed and hard tonneau cover semi weather proof. Worried that this combination may be an issue, anyone done this?

I would have thought this would have been a more popular topic....

the Roll Bar to me is what is missing on the back of a Gladiator, but I really want to be able to use the truck bed as a big trunk if needed., but I don't see any pictures of "tonneau compatible roll bars" which is a little disconcerting .

Why add a roll bar? the truck comes built with a roll bar if safety is your concern. If it's purely aesthetic then you have to decide which is more important.

Because the roll bar needs to mount in the bed a hard cover will have to be custom formed to the specific bar and everything has to be mounted together for proper alignment. It's not something most people will want so I think you'll be on your own here

It seems to me roll bars bars were more popular back in the mid 80s To 90s. I had one on my 1989 Nissan Hardbody truck (my first truck and I loved that thing). They had the same problem with trying to keep the bed dry with a tonneau cover. Are you looking to put a roll bar for protection Or looks? If the look is what you are after, I’ve seen bed racks that are shorter and have that angled kicker on it. Looks, like a roll bar but should be able to accommodate a full tonneau.

As far as Roll Bars go, i just feel the back looks naked stock, it isn't a safety issue, but a cosmetic one for me. I just think it "completes" the look of the truck.

I am almost 50 years old and "jeeps" (Wranglers/Scramblers) always had that slant from the roll bar, and I just think it looks better. However I also want the ability to put supplies back there and have it water resistant, so things don't get soaked., etc. I would have thought this was a common desire but maybe I am the only one.

I just really like the look of both of these....

I like the one on the silver JT. Has that old school look. it almost looks like it sits on the bed rail. You may be able to get a cover on it.

The Silver on is the Maximus one (Maximus-3 is their forum member name) , It has my favorite look to it, I am thinking I am going to need a retractable tonneau to make it all work. Unfortunately, Retrax doesn't make one for the Gladiator otherwise I think theirs would be perfect.

They eat up bed space in an already small bed, but your call on how you use the bed.

I'm 100% aligned with you. Don't have either because of this limitation. Also add the fact I want a hard rolling cover.

I've resigned to the fact that I need the cover more. Black Horse makes one that is compatible with a soft rolling cover. A couple of members here have that set up.

I am leaning towards black horse at this point, I think that I could get the Vanguard one to work as you have to drill it into the bed anyway.
