Hi all, I was wondering if the Rubicon tow hooks are “rated” for recovery using snatch straps? Or do I need to upgrade them to a heavier duty Bow Shackle receiver.
Thanks

Page 192 of the manual says:

For off-road recovery, it is recommended to use both of the front tow hooks to minimize the risk of damage to the vehicle. Always use an appropriately rated tow strap.

CAUTION! Tow hooks are for emergency use only, to rescue a vehicle stranded off road. Do not use tow hooks for tow truck hookup or highway towing. You could damage your vehicle. Tow straps are recommended when towing the vehicle, chains may cause vehicle damage.
------

So, to answer your question, yes, they are rated for recovery.

However, I can't seem to find any clear explanation on what their rating actually is. I wonder if @JeepCares could dig up that info and help us? How many lbs are they actually rated to.

Note, here: https://www.quadratec.com/products/12117_100.htm it says that the JK black tow hooks are rated to 5000 lbs, or 1.5x GVW. That multiplier may be the same for the JT?

I did find that there are a few aftermarket options, both require cutting:

However, it is also unclear what those are actually rated to when installed on a vehicle. Sufficient to get you out of a jam...

Maximus says theirs are rated for flat towing:

Thank you for this! I got bogged on the beach and swore I would never go back without recovery gear.
