Just installed the ronin antenna with ZERO loss in FM stations or loss in quality of said stations. Keep in mind that my results will not be the same as your results.

Exactly what I was looking for. Something modest and clean so that I could roll through the car wash w/o worry.

While you can pick it up directly from their website, I got it from Amazon for quick delivery.
Thank you!!

I had not considered a "stealth" dual band to replace the AM/FM antenna.

The Ronin is an AM/FM replacement and you will incur a tremendous reduction in AM/FM reception going from a 31" to 4" antenna.

The ones that I worked with were similar in length as the factory antenna that it replaced.

I am not finding much out there these days as far as stealth antennas. I am thinking of cobbling my own together. A plain looking dual band antenna, a chassis mount SO-239, a stainless "L" bracket, coax and a 3D printer cover to hide the bracket and SO-239.

Did you see the picture of my COMPACtennas a few posts above? They have a new 136-174, 378-512, 750-960MHz version that works surprisingly well and its only 9" tall. I have not used that one but do have an older version that covers basically the same bands and it works better than several other tri-band antennas I compared it to. I don't think you will find an antenna of the same size or smaller that will work as well.

Reception loss is relative to one’s locale. If you’re close to the radio stations or the stations have better equipment then you wont notice as opposed to someone out in the sticks or around mountains. I experienced absolutely zero loss in about 10 FM stations that I switch between. To be honest, I did not test AM stations since I don’t listen to any so there could have been some loss there for all I know. To give context of my situation, I live in Jacksonville Fl so it’s populated and all super flat.

Yes, you are absolutely right. However there is still tremendous loss going to that really small antenna and I estimate at least 6 to 10dB or 4 to 10X the loss of the stock antenna. If you drive within an area where your local FM stations provide enough signal to be noise free then of course you will never notice. I wish I was so lucky.

When I first received my 13" replacement I purposely tuned in lots of AM and FM stations across the entire band noting which were noise free and which had noise and which were barely listenable. After swapping antennas the super weak stations were gone and the noisy ones were barely listenable. Some strong stations seemed unaffected.

I wasn't feeling terribly ambitious that day otherwise I could have disconnected the antenna from the under the dash and connected that to a spectrum analyzer which would have given me a precise before and after level to go by.

I spend an unusual amount of time testing antennas using test equipment and am very familiar with the effects of shortening an antenna. Everyone wants them to be as small as possible but at the same time work as well as possible. Unfortunately those two things never come together at the same time.

i placed an NMO mount opposite the factory radio and use a standard 13” dual
Band antenna. It looks clean and uniform, and works well.

Hey Everyone,

I am wanting to add a 2m/440 antenna and a screwdriver with a LONG whip. Putting antennas on vehicles has never bothered me but I have never had a car this purdy before :).

I am just in love with the looks of my Gladiator and want to "do it right".

What have you all done? How has it worked out for you?

Pic's would be most welcome.

Thanks.

S.
Here's a couple pics of my dual band antenna set-up for 2M/440. Also mounted is a scanner and Stryker CB antenna. My interest was to create antenna height w/o punching a hole through the roof. I used a 3/4" x 3' gas pipe for a riser then mounted a dual band Comet to a NMO mount placed inside the pipe. A short section of PVC secures the antenna. O-rings are installed on the bottom and top. Works well, SWR at 1.2.

External antenna delete. Mounted one under the dash. Have not noticed any loss of reception.
