I would cut your dealer some slack. They are only going to support mods that are approved MOPAR accessory mods.

As to cost, yeah it is pricey when pricing from a dealership or MOPAR parts house. Can find wreck pulls from Ebay but you will need to get a 4 digit security code either from a dealer or third party service.
They didn't have the option when I bought my Sport S. October 2019. You would think they would support the upgrade being they now offer it.

Do you know if you order a new one do you need a 4 digit code or is that for one already associated with a Vin number

On the surface, one would think so but it is more nuanced than that. As previously mentioned, it is plug and play minus the cellular LTE connection.

The cellular LTE connection needs antenna, cabling and function switch set under the mirror installed that is not on a 7.0 factory built config. Then there is Uconnect and other connect services tied into the cellular connection that if the dealership supported officially, then new customers who "mod" to an 8.4 radio would think they are now entitled to that Uconnect support of the LTE cellular function.

In addition, a sales code would need to be added and your now new vehicle's VIN would need to be added to the Uconnect service data base to register. This is 90% of why they will not support a 8.4 radio upgrade to vehicle that were not factory built with it.

There is a handful (like single digits) of users on the JL and RAM forums who actually went through this and got full service but that was only because they were able to trip someone along the way to add their VIN by accident.

I am not certain of that. Question you would have to ask from where you are sourcing it from.

Thanks for all the info Hootbro. I have been researching the forums and the info is scattered. You seem to have the most precise info. How would be the best way to monitor the forums in case another one comes up for sale. I am not real forum savvy. Lol as you can probably tell.
