2021 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon | 41k miles | asking $70,000

The time has come and have decided to let my 2021 Jeep Gladiator build go. I am the original owner and have spent a good amount of money maintaining and building this truck to ensure it was reliable and tough for most all driving conditions. I understand that this truck is not going to be for everyone and would be great for those looking to build similar truck and save a lot of money. This truck is not a parking lot queen and has been used as a Jeep should but it is not abused nor does it have any problems.

I never got into the Jeep brand because I have always preferred having a truck so the Wrangler never cut it. When the Gladiator came out, the idea of having a truck but also have increased off-road ability was appealing so we took the leap to try Jeep out. We have loved it more than we thought and since then our need for a truck has decreased and our love for rock crawling has increased. With that said, I have decided to try switching to a Wrangler and will have it built exactly the same with the exact parts as soon as it is purchased as this Gladiator which has been so bombproof.

As you can see from the pictures, it is heavily built and is built to be able to tackle any off-road rock trail you can throw at it. There is plenty more than can be done to make it more capable, but it is a very solid base. Right now the truck has the following upgrades: Currie Extreme 60 axles with 5.38 gearing and Eaton front and rear e-lockers. Full PSC hydro-assist steering with new larger steering box and mechanical operation (no more electric pump). EVO springs with Fox 2.0 shocks. EVO Bomber rock sliders (just installed). KMC Mesa forged beadlock wheels with centers powdercoated black and a full size spare. Mickey Thompson Baja Boss 40x13.50r17 tires with about 7k miles. EVO front and rear track bars. SteerSmarts drag link. Teraflex endlinks. Teraflex Alpine IR control arms, full set. SmartCap bed topper (potentially not included). Warn 10S winch with synthetic line. Baja Designs amber fog lights using factory fog switch. EVO front inner fender liners. Motobilt rear fender liners. Motobilt bed molle panels, all three sides. Upgraded deep cycle battery. Hothead headliners with sound deadening. Redarc trailer controller. JE Reel front and rear double cardan driveshafts, 1350. Quake LED fenderchop signal lights. ARB dual onboard compressor. Tazer front trail camera. Mopar auxiliary switches. Several more things that I’m likely forgetting.

Truck has had its routine oil changes through the local Jeep dealership and we’ve never had any issues or problems. Everything works and overall is in great condition. The truck is used as my daily, is sitting at 41k miles, and is garage kept. The truck came with most factory options including the safety and advanced safety group, adaptive cruise control, auto dimming high beams, full leather, Rubicon package, Alpine premium sound, bedliner, paint matched hardtop and fenders, cold weather package, etc.

The bad? The truck is used for wheeling and because of such, has some rock rash. There has never been any body damage, but some wheels have rock rash on the beadlock rings, the rear bumper is scraped on the underside, sliders have a few scuffs, etc. No issues with body or mechanics.

I am in no rush nor do I need to sell the truck so I’m not interested in low ball offers or advice about the pricing. I have a spreadsheet of most items on the vehicle and the labor and it has been well over $50k in parts and labor alone. You cannot build a truck of this spec for less than I am selling for. If you’re waiting a seriously capable truck that can handle anything you throw at it, this is your truck. If I’m not able to get what I’d like out of it, we’re chopping the bed and adding coilovers!

Man if this was the diesel motor I'd be writing you a check right now. What's your real world fuel economy on this thing? max range on the highway?

I was in the same boat when originally purchasing and even before getting the axles I was considering swapping to diesel before buying axles. Here are the reasons I decided against it:

1. The diesel Gladiators have some decently documented feedback from owners complaining about heat and towing issues. Sure, someone with a stock or close to stock diesel are going to be just fine, but forcing the diesel to turn 40's and 1-tons is setting them up to go into limp mode because of the overheating issues. This is just road use, offroad is worse. The trucks play it very safe and as temps rise they go into limp mode. Going over mountain passes and not being able to get full power was a killer for me. I've been in groups in southern Utah with diesel guys that are turning off the trucks often to let sit because they get crazy heat soak.

2. They do not get the same aftermarket parts (lifts, skid plates, armor, etc.) that the gas does. Because they sold less than the gas and since they have discontinued diesel from Jeep, you'll see less support for the diesels. You have to get diesel-specific parts and with them being discontinued you'll see less and less of that. I'd prefer some fewer MPGs to be able to have access to parts and support.

3. Towing. There was a major publication (I think it was Motor Trend) that did a tow test with the diesel stock. They reported the horrible fuel economy and how power just wasn't there when towing that you'd expect from a diesel option. What is the point if it can't get MPG and tow?

Anyway, longer response than probably necessary but I've invested and put a lot of research into planning what I want for an offroad vehicle. Right now I'm daily driving the truck and just moved to a new area so I'm not doing as much freeway as I was before. With that said I'm getting 14-14.5 city. I helped a buddy build the exact truck (seriously, exact parts on everything minus shell) and he drives more on the freeway and he's averaging a few MPG higher and sees up to 16mpg+ depending on condition.

Either way, let me know!

As someone the is looking for a Gladiator and have been going back and forth between diesel and gas, this was a great response from real world usage
