Spare tire cable

Has anyone had any issues with the spare tire cable getting stuck? I let mine down yesterday to swap the spare tire out. I can down fine, went back up fine but when I went to load the new spare under the truck the cable came down about 10 inches and got stuck. Now it won't go up or down.

That's one reason why I'm glad I have not needed to drop mine. Some regularly drop it and lube the cable. I have done nothing with it in over four years. I have three good spares and usually carry at least one in the bed.

Reading your post, you lowered the tire, removed and then wound back up with out a load on it?
did you have tension on it when you wound it back up?
I am guessing the winding got bound up similar to a winch line not being spooled up correctly.

Yes I had to leave the spare at discount tire to be removed and replaced with a tire that matches the tires I'm running on the truck...I had to leave while they did the work so I had to run it back up so it wasn't dragging the ground...any idea how to fix it? Before I cut the cable...

Try adding pressure as you wind down.
