Total noob 4x4 question. I got a 2020 JT with the Overland tire upgrade. All Terrain tires and the stock Overland 18" rims. I like them. I can find items to spend my money on rather than different rims and tires.

But SHOULD I be getting different tires/rims? For normal, everyday driving, I'm happy with this setup. If I go up some gravel roads, I'm probably ok. Now, if I go COMPLETELY off-road, I'm thinking I need mud/trail tires.

I really don't see me rock climbing this ride. But I wouldn't mind going off-road, mud paths, streams, etc.

Again, I don't want to do lift kits (yet), but would it behoove me to get different, more aggressive tires and swap out for playtime? And if I am going to "play", why spend a lot of $$ on flashy rims?

Don't flame...I'm just looking for opinions and thoughts. Cheap rims with mud tires? Brands? Sizes? Remember, I have the stock 18" All-Seasons on there right now.

And go..

I'd try your off-road adventure, and see what the AT tires do. If you're happy with the results, there's your answer.
I was dissatisfied with the stock All Season tires, and replaced them with the Bridgestone All Terrain tires, and I've been happy. I haven't done much off-road with them, but they do well in mud, snow & wet.

I have a 2020 Overland with Toyo 275x70x18 AT tires that the dealership installed. I've towed it behind the motorhome for 15K miles, been on sand dunes, mud roads and a few off road heavy rutted, rocky roads. No rock climbing but some of the roughest roads had lots to rock to crawl over. I've done all this without a lift and only bottomed out a couple times. I'm headed back out West this summer so last week I added the Mopar 2" lift but no new tires or rims. I added the lift just in case.

I hated the look of the H/T tires on the overland. Had them mount the optional A/T Bridgestones when I bought it, and haven't been disappointed. They work well on the road and in the snow. No off road yet.

I've gone off road on all season tires in an F-150. It didn't get stuck, but it wasn't muddy so there wasn't a reason to get stuck. As for my rides, I've always gone with all terrain, and usually upgraded from the factory, except the Falken A/T tires on the Jeeps are actually really good. Mud tires are just that, for mud. All terrain will handle mud fine, but not anything serious.

If they are AT then stay with them. A/T's are all around better tires than M/T's. If they are the Overland HT tires then they are lacking for any offroad except the lightest.

On road comparison....... I had the stock Bridgstone Dueler HT on my Overland and they rode great. I swapped on some Rubicon take off Falken WildPeak AT and they ride much more rough. You will notice expansion joints in the road where the Dueler HT I would not notice them.

I have the Bridgestone Dueler A/T tires, 18" Overland tires that were swapped by the dealer. I can say that they rode great out to Oregon and back to Missouri. I never had an issue in snow conditions, nor in the blizzard here in St. Louis this past weekend. Thanks all for the tips! I'll keep what I got for now :)

I'm wanting to upgrade from my stock all seasons but honestly I haven't so much as had one wheel slip, even on wet red clay going uphill. I got out to take a picture and noticed the entire tire was caked in red clay - turned it from a 31" to a 33". Even with an inch of mud I wasn't slipping.

I'm sure that there are situations where I could get stuck with them but they are holding up better than I expected. I mainly just want another inch or two of clearance and better aesthetics.
