2020 Overland, just under 36,000 miles on it. I am having an issue with a squeaking and clicking sound when turning the steering wheel, mostly when turning towards the left. I notice it more with the truck still, in park, while turning the wheel back and forth. I have checked the ball joints for wear and tightness. Jacked up, rocking the wheel up and down, etc. I’ve been under it with my wife rocking the steering back and forth, using a stethoscope and old school hose to the ear. It sounds like it’s coming from the steering box, or close by. I cannot find anything loose or obviously worn anywhere. Although, the steering box does appear to be “wiggling “ when turned to the left. Not sure if it’s from the stress of sitting still, or maybe loose bolts. I ran out of time today, so I’ll check those tomorrow. Any ideas what I’m missing? Also, it is the original aluminum box, although I haven’t had any issues before now.

You beat me to it. This is next weekend’s project to see where mine is at.

OP if it’s off, clock it just shy of where it’s marked on the body of the steering box. Like 1/8-1/16” shy should do the trick. The good news is if that doesn’t fix it it’s time for a PSC Big Box upgrade. And it’s justified as a repair!!!! :like:

Yeah, I had thought about adjusting the preload there. I used to have to do it to my old CJ-5, until it finally had to be replaced. I’ll look at that tomorrow, if it’s not raining. I did run back out and check the mounting bolts and pitman arm nut. Everything was good.

Crawled back under the JT today, and was able to get a better view and angle on the steering box. I was able to tighten the rearward steering box bolts almost 1 whole turn. Problem solved. Sometimes having more time, and a fresh perspective pays off. (I never tried adjusting the preload, as there is no play, just the squeaky sound).
