Hey guys,

Hoping for some advice. Long story short, a body shop replaced the rear bumper on my 2022 JT Sport from a driver reversed in to me. It put scratches on the bumper and it's a brand new truck. When they turned it back over to me, the tires looked great after the washing.

Some of the tire shine sprayed up on the sides and onto the rear white flares. I didn't think much about it at the time because I've seen it before. But when I washed the truck, I had to use wax to get it off the doors - soap didn't work. A lot of elbow grease and it came off but not off the white fender flares - they're stained.

I took the truck back to the repair shop and of course, it's not their fault. "It must have been something you drive through because our tire shine didn't do that".

So I took it to the dealer I bought it from (I've put 5,000 miles on it since I bought it) because WTF stains the clearcoat / paint on a new vehicle?? They took pics and submitted them for warranty work but after having to follow up with them again, they said my request was denied!

I've asked for contact information to escalate, and they said they would get back to me today or tomorrow. I'll probably have to follow up again (what is it with customer service these days?) but am I off base here? Should rear fender flares be susceptible to permanent staining from spray off tires??

Cheers to any advice / suggestions.

After a quick search found this:

I just came across this discussion on an auto detailing forum that speaks to someone with the same exact situation:

Help Please: Tire shine stains on white paint...
My buddy has a body shop and he told me about using a comet cleanser type powder. It only works on white paint,It has to be the white powder,He used it
www.autopia.org
In this post one person said this about the stains left by the tire sling "That`s called 'photo spotting.' This is why some silicone based tire shines warn you this may happen especially on white or light colored cars."

The good news is that, according to some, the stains may simply fade over time.

To prevent this from happening again, I highly recommend using a water-based tire dressing such as Chemical Guys VRP or Xtreme Solutions Longevity. Avoid silicone-based dressings.

Edit: Ok I actually read the post. Those black dots? Did you try a clay bar?

How about, “ they weren’t stained when it came in, fix it”?

I'd try some iron remover. spray it on and let it dwell. then wash off with your favorite car soap.

if that doesn't work then I'd try to use a clay mitt on it. make sure you have some type of lubrication on there when you put the mitt against the paint. if not it will mar the paint up.

last resort is take it to a detail shop and have them buff it out with a cutting pad.

I would have asked why they were trying to ruin my tires by putting the crap on it in the first place...

I treat all our vehicles very well, paste wax once every 3 months, preceded by a nice wash and clay bar. Interior leather gets a Zymol clean and condition, vinyl and plastics just get wiped with damp microfiber. The wheels/tires just get scrubbed with a brush and soap, and occasionally some Eagle One wheel and tire cleaner to dissolve any brake dust that had been missed. I just started experimenting with Ceracote plastic restore for the exterior plastics on the TJ, and JT... we'll see...

I never use any dressing on tires or interior.

That looks like paint overspray. Take it back to them and show them. That, or buy a Meguires Clay Bar kit for $25 and give it a shot yourself.
