Hey Everyone!

I am putting this post up to see if anyone has experienced this with their gladiator. I recently traded in my 2020 Overland for a 2021 Mojave. I ordered my Mojave through my local dealer and just picked it up two weeks ago.

I daily my truck and have noticed a high pitched whistle coming from either the instrument cluster or behind it while at idle or moving. My gut feeling is it's the alternator (I ordered the truck with the tow package) or the power steering pump. Has anyone else experienced this?

I want to take it back to the dealership, but they are wanting to charge me a $200 diagnostics fee. Which I think is ridiculous since the truck is only two weeks old. Any thoughts or suggestions?

To top it off I also found two sheared fasteners. Not sure if this happened at the dealership or factory. Two of the fasteners that hold the trail rail management system in the bed, are clearly sheared off. You can see the fastener heads missing but the threaded portion in the hole. Thoughts on this?

Thanks!!

First, I would think that diagnostics for any noticeable unusual noise should be covered under warranty. I would approach them with something like 'I think there is something wrong with my Mojave. It is making a weird noise that my Overland did not have.'

If they push back, you can start trying to diagnose yourself and/or get Jeep Cares involved.

Does the noise change tone or volume with:
engine speed
road speed
turning the steering wheel
HVAC fan setting
foot on/off brake pedal
engine off w/ key in ON position

At idle with the vehicle stationary, when you turn the steering wheel (and then release the wheel) you will hear the power steering pump motor 'spool up' and then it will slow down for several seconds and then stop.

If you can hear the noise at idle when stopped, I would think that you would be able to find the source fairly easily. Use a piece of fuel or heater hose up to your ear to listen to different components under the hood and behind the dash (if you can get to them). You can also pick up a mechanics stethoscope for fairly cheap that will let you listen for noises/vibrations. The one I have has a contact probe, which lets you check specific components like the PS pump/motor and the alternator.

This is the one I have:

Sorry for the delay is response. But I have some updates….

I took my Mojave into the dealer and per their tech the high pitched sound is normal. Which I don’t by, because after asking around on other Gladiator FB pages only one other person has noted the sound. The dealer told me it is the electronics from the fuel pump and is normal and for me to just raise the volume on my radio to drown out the whistle. (not a cool response in my book).

Anyone have thoughts on what to do next? I know the issue isn’t normal.

Thanks for your pointers! I did all of this and was able to sound intelligent when speaking with the service advisor. The sound does intensify when moving the wheel and shuts off when the engine turns off. There is no noticeable change when turning on/off the HVAC. But like I mentioned in my previous post the dealer is claiming normal operations. Which I don’t think is true.

Noticed it on my 21 Rubicon but not on 2020 Sport-S

It annoys me

Reach out to JeepCares. They are super helpful and they are helping get everything lined up with another dealer.
