Tailgate noise when closing, is it normal?

Every time I close my tailgate, it clicks on the drivers side on the way up before closing. It’s coming from the part that pivots where the cable connects to the tailgate. I am just wondering if this is normal or not?

Sometimes when I close my tailgate my cables will 'catch' on the tailgate screw and then make a click noise when they pop over the screw head and hit the tailgate. It seems to happen on the driver side more than the passenger side for some reason. It also seems to happen mostly when I have had the tailgate in the half way position, then I release the cables and close the tailgate.

My JT is white, so I can see exactly where they are hitting. I applied some 3M rubber grip tape to the areas. If it doesn't hold up, I'll apply some XPel PPF film that I have.

I also carefully bent each cable away from the tailgate just a little, which seems to help some.
