Property taxes in NM are dirt cheap. We pay around $1,700 a year for our house, guest cabin and two 6 acre lots we purchased adjacent to our main house lot. 18 acres total.
$4,000/year for 2.5 acres, our 1,000 sq ft house and my shop (which is more square feet than our house)

Last year I found out that when I turn 65 (11 years from now) I have another pension kicking in (very small) from when I worked for Hewlett Packard. It was a nice surprise.
I pay more than twice that for a 1400 sq/ft house on 1/6th of an acre in Idaho lol.

Not too bad. It's a big house. Ours is a custom cabin a little over 1,100 Sq. Ft., with a detached 400 Sq. Ft. Guest cabin. Out here the construction cost per Sq. Ft. is pretty steep approaching $350 average per Sq Ft.

That's pretty steep. Must be in a very nice neighborhood.

Not really, crappy bungalow built in 1940. I have two 1980s apartment complexes within a block from me. Idaho is just really expensive.

That's way north by Colorado. How is the area? Forest or desert?

Winters where I'm at get very cold. Went down to 1 degree last January and staid below freezing for almost two weeks straight. 🥶

Try a daytime high of minus 20 for a full week. By the time it got up to zero one day, I was sweating doing outside chores. But that was years ago before Raynaud's
