Good evening and Merry Christmas!

I've heard and read about the auxiliary battery used for start-stop killing the main battery and a guy on YouTube who shared a story of his Wrangler dying in an intersection when the vehicle wouldn't restart due to a aux dead battery.

Does disabling auto start stop with the Tazer eliminate the issues caused by the aux battery dying, or would that battery need to be bypassed altogether (if possible)?

Your aux battery can still die. If you bypass, the bad aux battery won't affect your current one.

Tazer only keeps your start stop switch in the last position that you have used it. If you turn it off, it will remain off. Your aux battery and main battery will still be connected in parallel.

Either battery could cause starting issues. If you are having issues, don't assume your aux is bad. I would not bypass (delete) your aux until you can verify and test that your main battery is good. While you are at it, test the aux battery. Study up on how to safely test the batteries or you may get yourself in more trouble than you want.

I have my Tazer installed and leave my stop start off. I still need to put a trickle charger on my batteries every couple of weeks due to lack of use.

Thanks for the replies. I am not having issues currently, but if there is something I could do to avoid it, I just want to know. You know, an ounce of prevention is worth a punt of cure, or something like that.

What all these sad stories about getting stranded leave out is how they ignored the warning signs that the batteries were on a path to failure.

Keeping the ESS from turning off the engine has no effect on the lifespan or charging of the batteries. The biggest problem is not keeping the batteries charged. If the truck is not being regularly driven, it should have a battery maintainer connected when parked.

Just plan on having to replace the batteries every three years. Watch for the ESS and Aux Switches unavailable messages for the warning that the batteries are on the way out.

This statement is spot on!

Another part of the story left out is, all the attempts to correct the issue that have failed.

It is good that the OP is aware of potential problems and is taking steps to avoid a breakdown. He should know that turning ESS on every now and then will help with that. Just to see that Ready message and not to let it stop the engine during a stop. Ess unavailable, Not Ready or battery charging for long periods of time are signs that you need to look at it.
