I was once again reading about the grueling Camel Trophy. This event was known as 4x4 Olympics. The first year (1980) saw use of Ford U50s, which were Brazilian license-built Jeep. After that, from 1981 to 2000, Land Rovers and Range Rovers were used.

Of course, these vehicles were modified for these treks, but it makes me wonder how a Jeep JL or JT would handle this type of event today. My first thought is that there are too many electronics and they wouldn’t fare well in the harsh conditions. What are your thoughts? Is the JL and JT as tough as previous generation SUVs?

I am sure a lightly modified JT or JL would not have any issues with the right team.

I have wheeled with two guys who had Land Rover Discovery's that seemed like they were working on them more than driving them.
