I've been having random issues with my TPMS system. Every now and then it stops detecting a wheel and displays a red "__" for that tire. It happens the most with the drivers side rear, but has actually happened to all 4 tires at once. Sometimes I think going off-road makes it worse. It seems like it will be fine for a while but I go in the woods and the issue is back. When it happens it sometimes takes days for the tire to start reading again. For example, I had the red __ on both drivers side tires after a wheeling trip two weeks ago, the drivers front came back online by the time I got home driving 200 miles in the rain and the rear came back online after I washed it days later. However, the rear dropped out again 2 days later, yet it sat in the driveway the whole time since I got home from my buddies place where I washed it.
I would think that if the TPMS in the wheel died it would stay dead and not come back on a day or two later (sometimes even in the same trip depending how long I'm in the car). So I'm wondering if it is a problem on the receiving end. Maybe the receiving sensor gets covered in dirt or something and it blocks the signal. Does anyone know where on the truck the receivers for the TPMS system are?
TIA
