People were nicer back when it was normal to not only beat your kids but even your wife if she was out of line? I guess so long as you were an adult male you might have the illusion that people were nicer.
I didn't live during that era, but according to my parents they were. In fact they said they never locked their doors at night and the neighbors all watched out for each other. I don't get that here, my neighbor and their guests are all entitled arrogant dicks and I always lock up and have my cams running 24hrs a day.

As a kid I did too! Maybe because my parents introduced us to these type of musicals and it just embedded into our souls. Loved it, bro you making me miss my parents 😢
Dad in his lazyboy. Mom sitting on the couch, crocheting. Me sitting on the floor, being the remote control to the tv. When dad or mom wanted to change the channel. I had to get up and change it on the tv.

I was also the furnace guy. Had to throw coal in the furnace in the winter to heat the house.

LOL. I remember those days. I was also the channel changer but fortunately there were only 3 channels so it wasn't difficult, just annoying. Also we were always outside, all day, came home when the street lights came on, knew all of the people in our entire neighborhood, simple life. Wouldn't change it for anything.

Same here. :like: The local chief of police knew every kid by name and nick name too. He went to school with my mom. Every buddy knew every buddy.

Installed (at home) all 4 replacement center caps. Corporate tire store wanted to do the install. "No thanks, you've done enough, I'll take care of it from here"

Wow you must have growed up in a rough state , in the mountains you could pick up hitchhikers with no fear, go visit friends unplanned have dinner , men would open the door for a lady and people said hello on the street and fellow Jeep owners actually gave the Jeep Wave 👋🏻 😉

People pretended to be nice/ were nicer to strangers than their own families...impressive.

I want to tell you all about growing up in rural WV around friends and family going to ⛪ together helping neighbors with their hay fixing a strangers flat tire.
But then again maybe it was just my life.

Throwing hay bales on a wagon built you a strong back. Did that in high school helping friends out. Then partied your ass off at night with the bonfire.

I was barely 12 yrs. Old Dad let me drive his 1978 crew cab single wheeled 1 ton Dodge with 318 2-barrel automatic in order to reach the pedals he would stick a jacket behind me 😂 so when I pushed the brake I could actually apply pressure. My uncles and my Dad tossing those bales like it was nothing for hours.
