Will the dash switches (heater, blower, AC, etc) still function if the MFD fails? I know they work with the MFD turned off, but with a failure maybe not...I am a little nervous about all the digital stuff in the new jeeps
Thanks
My first Gladiator (Sport S) but my 5th jeep.

I think he means "Multi-Function Display" which is more of a aviation term. He is probably talking about the dual touchscreen controls on the radio display that are dual function of the control panel below it for the physical dials and buttons for the HVAC.

To answer his question, the physical tacit controls should work if the touch screen is offline but he will not have visual feedback for actual temp, control position or fan speed.

Edit: Could prove it out by pulling the F97 radio fuse and checking the HVAC control function still works.

I'm about 80% sure of this.
Maybe people who know more can either correct me or confirm.

Most of the functions are controlled by the body control module (BCM)

Both the MFD and the physical switches merely ask the BCM to activate a function. So the failure or absence of the MFD shouldn't matter.

Having unplugged the UConnect screen and driven around, all manual controls work fine if the MFD is offline.
Yes because these were designed to have the cheaper smaller radio in them. Unlike the Grand Cherokee which has NO matching manual controls for the HVAC - it's all in the radio.

Every new vehicle in the future is going to be the exact same thing. Especially ev’s. You might as well be “forced” to get used to it. 😉

I think you should be ok, I test drove a newly delivered Jeep at a dealer last year and the radio is disabled from the factory (some sort of transport mode), how ever rear back up display activates when put into reverse.

That makes sense since it's federal law that has to be there. And - it's got to be handy when maneuvering these things around in the over-crowded dealer lots before they are prepped.

PS - IRQ = "interrupt request" such as IRQ 3 and 4 for com ports and IRQ7 for parallel printer port, and so on? And old PC guy?

Us humans will need to be re-programmed to operate the vehicles of the future.

Or maybe not, as we take a nap while being chauffeured around without a driver. Now that takes all the fun out of it. :(
