Hey guys! Just to put you in perspective,
I currently own a set of cooper stt pros 37, on some « cheap » trail boss wheels from canadian tire. I have had no luck with these tires last week, slashed 2 side walls between the side bitters on the same trail. The first we suspect a semi-maybe too sharp rock edge, and the second one I can’t even see what causes the tire to fail, it was moss, dirt and small branches.
In the past I owned mud grapplers for 6 years, thrown anything at them and they took it without a cut, or just a scratch. now I have completely lost my trust in the coopers, I will move back to nittos, in the « trails » this time.
so that leads me to the next question. It seems like they don’t make this kind of wheels nowadays.
I wanted to buy another set of the same wheels I had with the mud grapplers because it was a killer combo. It was Level8 motorsports wheels, the zx5 with plastic rash rings. I could air down to 8-10 psi without absolutely any issues. (See picture for reference)
They were affordable, back in 2014-15. Paid around 270$ US ea. plus the rings I can’t remember. Bought from discount tire direct.
So, I’ve been searching for a similar wheel for my JT, and all the options are crazy expensive, even in the non-beadlock world. What would be your suggestion?
A friend bought pro comp steel wheels and welded rings around the edges, the look is nice but thats a heavy wheel.
