I know there’s been a ton of these but, before I buy, I thought you guys could weigh in on which option would be the best for what I want to do. I’ve been a home gamer for 35yrs but almost no experience with scan tools. Here’s what I want to do:

Rear locker in 2wd

Turn ESS off

Tire size correction

I would like to add the proximity door handles so any “programming” that comes with that

Finally, I think my auto temp control is flaking on me. Seems full hot one minute, cold the next. I would like to monitor real time values for say:

Interior temp sensors

The command coming from the computer to the device (valve, blend door, etc.) changing the temp

And, if there is one, the feedback from afforementioned actuator

I’m sure there’s other things I will want or need to do with the selected scan tool but this is the list now. I’m leaning towards a good OBD2 dongle, the security cables, and my Ipad but could def be convinced to go full scan tool if that’s the consensus. I know I’ll prob have to purchase license(s) for full access and that’s totally fine. I should mention, currently, the only other vehicle I own that I can plug into is a 2004 Lexus IS300. Don’t know how much that plays into it but have been toying with the idea of adding a new/almost new JL as well.

Thanks for everyone who takes the time to weigh in!

A TAZR would address some of the added functionality you desire.

For monitoring and bi-ditectional functions your going to have to pony up some good money for something like an Autel. If you're a gamer, cost it going to be on par with a high end GPU/graphics card.

Look up the Autel MS906PROTS.......this will do everything you need and more.

Haha, sorry. When I said home gamer I meant I’ve always done all my own work on my vehicles but never anything scan tool related. But thanks for your response! I‘ll check that Autel out.

I think AlfaOBD and the recommended OBD adapter and SGW will handle all the monitoring requirements (double check, I've never dug THAT deep into the weeds). While not cheap, it should still be a heck of a lot cheaper than that Autel.

For turning off ESS or engaging the rear locker in 2wd you will need something like the Tazer, or some sort of physical hack/mod, because those are not programmable features.

Alfa OBD, Tazer, or just about any other programmer can handle tire size and adding the proximity locks.
