Several states require a compartment containing firearms to be OEM. For example, in KY a firearm kept in an oem compartment, lockable or not, is not considered to be “concealed” and universities cant prohibit students/faculty/visitors from storing their firearms in OEM compartments while their vehicles are on campus.Granted I have not seen the lockable storage in person yet, however, I don't think I would be locking a gun in there. It looks to be made of a plastic material and I don't think the locks were particularly beefy. A metal aftermarket box using the same mounting points is the first mod I will be looking to make.

And mine is not lockable.
Really wonder about getting a locking box.
