šŸ˜† There’s a good reason why we have a 3 car garage….. because it prevents us from buying more stuff that we can’t enjoy. ☺ The BMW is our daily speedster and the Jeep is our daily truck & convertible. The boat takes up the 3rd bay.
You keep cars in your garage???!!!! :surprised:
Isn't gonna stop me. I'll buy as much as I can afford or will fit along the fence line on our acre.

Or until the ole lady says STOP. Then one more.

But I don't plan on buying much worthy of a garage šŸ˜‚

Easy to do if you get off the wrong coast. Our 41 acres in the mountains of northern AZ was under $1k/acre. We spent the last year building our cabin, but the retirement house and shop are about 10 years out. No need to set up a range on property as we back up to over 1,000 acres of blm land. All total we are $65-70k into 41 acres with a 12'x16' cabin with a full loft, fully off grid with solar, 500 gallon water tank, and propane water heater. It's more affordable than people think.

I'd love to build something like this, but it would be more like northern Arkansas as that's where the 'local' affordable land is for me šŸ˜„

There's actually affordable land much closer to home... but it would still be in CA. 600 miles each way definitely racks up the miles and limits the number of trips but it's well worth it to be outside of CA.

I feel that. We have some friends that live in CA (I believe some of them are outside San Diego and the others are in Placerville near the Rubicon) and they love it - other than the costs and what not.

For me, going up into Arkansas gets me into some 'mountains' and clear rivers on the cheap, within an easy days drive. Closer, in Mississippi, get's me cheap land but nothing else to look at. lol.

The only cheap land in Louisiana is gonna have 10 feet of water on it a couple times a year.

There's a lot to love. Beautiful beaches, thousands of miles of trails like the rubicon, huge amounts of public land for camping, wheeling, etc, as an electrician there's no better place to work. 4 of the top 5 highest paid locals in the country are within 60 miles of the house. The bay area is rarely below 40⁰ or above 90⁰. The regulations and taxes are ridiculous. As a working person there's nowhere I'd rather be...retirement is another story entirely.

I can barely believe the price some of you guys get land for, especially with hills and views.

We did made a good deal for 4,800 here in South Florida for about $250,000. Not cheap, but a good buy, at least for here.

By the way, I am referring to square feet, not acres.

Well, I don't have a hill nor view, but I bought 3 beds and 2 baths on a 1/4 acre for $96K in 2016.

There is a mobile home directly across the street though šŸ˜‚

Our other house is very modest, but on an acre surrounded by rich folks horse farms - for $136K in 2021.

Also another mobile home directly across the street, and the neighbor has like five tossed together outbuildings to store stuff and right next to our property line is a Dodge truck rotting into the ground, a utility trailer with a flat tire, and some other stuff. But he mows around it so it's good šŸ˜‚

So - hardly as hip and cool as Miami - but we like it.

We actually "moved" from Miami (renting out the 3/2 cookie cutter on 4k square feet) so we could buy, (I beg your pardon on thoughts on mobile homes...lol) for a double wide here in the Keys for 250k a few years ago selling for 500k+ now. Yea, its a mobile home. I tell people after all my life and my wife working professionals that somehow we end up in a mobile home ...lol.

So goes life.

We have both cheap and expensive land in Michigan.

You can get acres in the UP for $2k/acre or less. Or you can get a 4,800 sq ft lakefront lot in the lower peninsula for $500k.

You can't touch a tiny 2/1 with no yard in san Jose where I work for less than a million $. Our 1,100 sqft house on .2 acres in the valley is pushing towards $500k now. Conversely off grid properties in the mountains can still be had for under $1k/acre. It's 20 miles or a dirt road and a solid hour from town, but the views alone are worth the price. Just got back from a 5 day trip on Sunday and I'm counting down the days until the next 5 day trip over presidents day weekend.

I say mobile homes very tongue and cheek as I grew up in a mobile home hood, and ours was a very small 12x50 or so, and it was actually one bedroom, one bathroom. My bedroom was the laundry area converted - and you walked through my bedroom out the back door into a walled in lean-to where the washer/dryer and freezer was at on a wooden deck above a gravel 'garage' floor. That was my first 15 years or so.

Some folks really have it out for mobile homes - but they don't bother me any. I know where I came from šŸ˜‚

Yes, I lived in a small (very small) mobile home growing in South Jersey and from what I barely remember my father was building our small 2/1 home over top of it and expanding the space while disassembling the mobile home as the roof was completed. So goes our childhoods.

Now at least I am in a 2/2 with a small office/computer room worth well over 500k. Go figure. But I guess that's what you pay to be in a mobile home about 100 yards from the ocean.

I had a 47 Willy’s CJ2A for years. I’m not sure how he fits in that Jeep… he’s a tall guy.
