Currently running some heavy Fuel 20s with 38s which combined weight is around 130lbs. Looking to go lighter but up the size this time around. I like the weight of the Method 316s in the 8.5 width and 4.75 backspacing but don't know if that's enough to run 40s. My rig is a Rubicon with split fenders, 2.5 mopar lift, and rugged ridge liners. Most likely going with the Geolander MT G003 in 40x13.5 so combined I'm looking at saving around 20lbs a corner. Will they fit?

Yeah drop down to some 17x8/9 wheels. 20s are for mall crawlers lol

Yep I agree. I got them peak covid 2nd hand since there wasn’t much out there at the time. I don’t do any hard wheeling but I’m out on the beach several times a week. Just don’t know if the 4.75 backspacing will be enough for 40s

Hard to say, stock control arms? You'll most likely have to limit up travel with a bump stop but street/beach driving you're probably good to go

Have the mopar control arms. I’m more worried about rubbing on the inside/liners. Don’t know if that’s enough backspacing to push them out enough.

if you’re not doing any hard wheeling, why in the world would you wanna go with 40 inch tires? All that’s gonna do is put a lot of strain on your stock suspension. And make you fuel mileage even worse.

If you really want the big tire look, 17s with a 37 inch tire is more than enough for a mall crawler. Or beach crawler.

Because I already have 38's and if I can go larger yet be lighter that's a win win. Also very soft sand here so aired down the 40s will give me more float. But you know, thanks for not answering the question ;-)

This guy did 40's with no lift, and it looks like if he just did some trimming he'd be okay on the road and maybe even sand. So I think your 2.5" and 8.5 width rims with 4.75 backspacing should be good enough for those 40's - maybe add some wheel spacers, that may help with frame rubs! ;)

BTW I'm running the Yokohama Geolanders MTs but 37's and I love it.

I'm guessing 4.5" or less is going to work better. But you could change inner fender liners or never turn full lock. Or spacers
