Willys Grill Color Killing Me!!

You're not the only one. Bugs the hell out of me almost as much as the shiny black. I really want the satin grille with the body colored surround. But the cost to do it is a bit much.

I ALMOST was going to bitch about the shiny black too but I didn't want to push it Truth is, this should have been more of a satin black too.

I think his problem is that the surround doesn't match the hood color.

Correct. I am OK with the whole grille being black (although, should have been satin black not shiny) but I hate that 3/4 of the surround is that same shiny black and not body color. Again, it's a small thing to complain about when I LOVE the rest of the Jeep, but just in the off chance FCA reads these forums, this will hopefully get some attention. One can hope!

I am looking at my red willys and I may be alone here but I think I prefer it this way! It almost looks "racoon faced" to me with the body color surround. Different strokes for different folks!

So you want this? I agree with you...seems really odd to go asymmetrical with their color scheme like that. That definitely would drive me nuts.

We just got our second Willey's.
The first was a JK and the new one is a JL.
Both the surround and grill gloss black.
On the first one I never even noticed the surround until I saw a youtuber put the mat black grill on his sport.
He pointed out on rubicon and overland you don't need to order the surrounds but sports you do and then have them painted if you want.
It was six years before I even realized there was a difference.
Given that now that I'm aware I'm fine with all gloss black.
After a while you won't notice

I tried for the last few weeks to just "get over it" but every time I walk by, it's like Austin Powers trying not to look at that mole! The grille and 3/4 of the "surround (called out in red arrows) are black. The natural line coming down from the hood is body color. You want than same line on the grille surround to also be body color, but it's the same shiny black as the grille! It looks so clearly cost-cut that it's driving me crazy. I have to get this fixed. Any ideas? I thought about taking the grille to a body shop to have it color matched. I wonder if there is any vinyl that would match? I'm willing to let the neighborhood kid have a go at it with a blue marker at this point!

I had the same thoughts of the grill color not matching the body paint lines. I did the vinyl wrap on the top corners. lucky my bright white was an easy match.
