Let's not even go there because we know the issue is the profile of the glass as much as some other criteria.
Again, that's been covered in depth in other threads.
Put that Chinese car's windshield more upright and see how long it lasts.
mine is doing fine 30k+ miles

Sorry guys, I’m kinda old Man and gotten little slow in my later years. Thanks for the quick info Arthur , I’ll give them a call. Sorry for not checking other threads, guess I got flabbergasted when progressive told me the costs. Il be changing insurance companies in July. Anyone else have experience non Jeep brand windshields? Goes against my cred but guess I’ll drive around with Crack until next SS raise.

I have had one since early 2022 and have not had an issue, leak, crack or chip since. shadowspapa is correct that the cost should be applicable to the deductible. Only way to know that is to read and ask. I honestly have never gotten an OE glass. I work for Toyota and we never used a Toyota part number for glass replacements. At that time most glass was coming from Mexico DOT. I am no expert and only speak from experience like most people here. $800 for a glass replacement is a bit insane no matter how you look at it. If they are prone (and they are) to cracking my theory is, why buy the best when no matter what you put in is going to break.

I have no sensors in glass, Max Tow Sport, roll up windows, keyed locks. None of that fancy stuff on this Jeep. Oh, I’m in Mississippi, this also makes a difference
Find a local body shop, they generally beat the Big Box Glass shops

maybe for Toyota, but I've found a lot of windshields, even OEM, being made in the USA - didn't take long to find several of them - big names, doing the glass in the USA, not Mexico.

That's why I'm thinking there must be variations in policies. From the time I had my first car at age 14, to now, we were always taught that "comprehensive covers glass" and that's always been the case of any windshield I've needed repaired or replaced, in Jeep, Ford, or whatever.
Chips were free, replacements were covered under comprehensive. No add-on needed at all, it's part of it around here.
So maybe some states are different?

Definitely geographic. With rocks on the roads here in the mountains, all cars get cracked windshields. So I’m sure insurance then wants a glass rider. I’d actually prefer it, as they don’t count it as a normal claim.

Comprehensive glass isn't considered a normal claim, either, as it's considered a "not your fault, something/someone else did it" thing.

Full glass coverage is often a rider, like you said, that covers the glass with no deductible. Comprehensive usually has a deductible.

You can have multiple glass claims in a year and it won't count against you.
At least not here or our company. (we don't have progressive)

This covers what you said - and why some may or may not want that add-on -

WHAT DOES COMPREHENSIVE AUTO GLASS INSURANCE COVER?
Comprehensive coverage is an optional choice on your automotive policy and will cover issues, not from collisions. This choice covers natural events like hail and other conditions such as theft or fire.

In most cases, the auto glass replacement benefit will only start once the full deductible has been met. The coverage can vary from state to state, and in some cases, windshield replacement may already be included in the policy, so check with your insurance provider.

IS FULL GLASS COVERAGE WORTH THE COST?
Full glass coverage is an option that is available to be added to the comprehensive policy, which can prevent paying for the deductible portion if there is a repair or replacement. In most cases adding on the full glass coverage can be affordable and worth the extra investment each month.

To determine if you want to have this added to your insurance, you will have to consider the area you live in. Environments where you use gravel roads frequently or need to park on the street would be a good indicator. Or, if the environment is prone to hailstorms, then the full coverage might be worth it because you have an increased risk of having damaged or broken windows from them.

I have USAA and my windshield is covered under the comprehensive portion of my policy. Any new windshield only costs $100. Windshield coverage is a must for Jeep owners. It's not a matter of if your windshield will crack, it's a matter of when.
Similar with State Farm and it's $200. It's so worth it- they will plug small dings until they can't for no additional cost, too.

as it turns out mine is made in USA too. So not everyone, even mom and pop windshield installers us them. Now we are back to the start and asking the people installing for these details because at this point it's all speculation. Just like reading into teh policy details. You windshield may cost more than the deductible so you should only be responsible for the deductible.

Progressive will tag you for windshield claims now... I was shopping around for insurance and they wouldn't take me since I had a few windshield repairs. Never had any other claims only repairs. I have Allstate and my agent says they are now looking at comprehensive claims and pricing accordingly..... I hate insurance companies!
