Wolfbox G900 Tripro Rearview Camera Review

Good afternoon! This review has been a LONG time coming. I won this Wolfbox G900 Tripro from @WOLFBOX during a Christmas give away. Here So while I did receive this for free this review is in no way influenced by them.

Some here may know that I then took damage to my truck bed and ended up doing lots of upgrades including a bobbed bed which took up the majority of the last 2 months. SO while I have not gotten the full tri-camera experience yet I wanted to go ahead and get a review thread started and posted and would update it as time progresses.

It took a few weeks for the camera to get to me via a boat in crossing the Pacific Ocean. Once I received it I unboxed and reviewed the contents. I found almost everything I needed minus a Jeep mirror mount. I requested a Jeep mount for the mirror, as we all know real estate in our windshield's is at a premium and I didnt want to use the straps to slap it on the front of my existing mirror so that it would protrude towards me and swing wide on both sides. I was informed it "came with a mount", which it did, but for a normal mirror mounting not the Jeep one. So I ordered and paid for a Jeep mount to get it installed "right".

Initially I had seen reviews about how it was too wide to allow the use of the visors and when test fitting I found that to be true. I did try to mount it to my dash to see if placement would work out and while I loved the placement it was a tad too shakey for use in this position. I have seen others do this now with success but with using a different dash mounting solution.

After a few days of seeing if I could sure up the on dash idea I decided to perform a "normal" install of the mirror using the bracket I purchased for the Wolfbox to mount in the factory location.

Being the "tripro" model means that it has a hard mounted camera on the mirror for a dash cam and 2 external cameras that you can mount where you choose. Many would choose a front cam and maybe an underneath cam or maybe a rear cam(On a Gladiator you then would have 2 rear cams, one thats a back up and one as a rearview). Since I already had the Z automotive camera mounted in the front of my truck I decided to figure out the best way to mount one camera in the rear seat/rollbar area to act as a permanent rearview cam location that could stay in place when I took the top off and I also was in the midst of performing my overhaul of my M1101 military trailer into a camping rig and wanted to mount the 3rd camera to the rear of the trailer so that I could see behind me while towing or while backing up in a campsite or on the trail.

I mounted the rearview cam to my rollbar and had it positioned close enough that I couldnt see the defrost lines but far enough away it didnt touch and vibrate on the back glass. I then mounted the 3rd cam to the back of my camping trailer and proceeded to run the wires under the truck to the back bumper where I planned to wire it to a port I would mount to the OEM steel bumper so that I could plug and unplug the trailer cam to the truck with ease. This is where the biggest delays came into play. I emailed the rep from wolfbox and requested a pin out of the wiring harness since I have no experience with USB-C type connector wiring and wanted to ensure that what I was hooking up was correct as the trailer side harness was some of the excess wiring I had from my rock lights(also 5 wire connections). Wolfbox refused to send me a diagram or tell me what each color wire was meant to be (IE black is ground, red is switched power, etc). Since I was communicating with someone in China it would take days for replies as they would come in the middle of the night. Finally after weeks of discussion over the wiring the wolfbox rep made mention of a "trailer/RV" harness that they were coming out with in May. I requested it and he said he would send it as soon as it was available. Well I believe it arrived at the end of May or beginning of June, camping season was long gone and my priorities shifted to not worry about upgrades to the camping trailer any longer until we got closer to Fall or if I had extra free time. Not to mention I had dropped the trailer off to have some items looked over during the summer.

I did recently relocate the rearview cam to the outside of the truck on the spare tire carrier for the bobbed bed and its been great being able to see "through" my spare tire behind me. I enjoy the wife view that the camera gives you of whats behind you. I do wish there was a way to "unzoom" at times as it makes objects appear MUCH closer than they really are.

Overall I love the product. Even though I have not experienced all of it yet what I have gotten out of it has been awesome. I have liked it so much that during Jeff's Prime day sale I bought a standard wolfbox rearview for my Acura TSX wagon and can now see behind me instead of through the long cabin. The dash cam is great to pull up and capture events that people dont believe happened(video below), like how I was behind a semi truck and the engine blew and thus ended up catching on fire and burning to the ground. I will say that going into the app to link up to the camera to pull and save an event is a bit time consuming and can be difficult, but I would imagine this would be the case with almost any dash cam. Wolfbox makes a great product and even despite the slight difficulties I had dealing with them to work out a custom solution I still paid for their product to go into another vehicle of mine after all of that. A Wolfbox camera most definetly should be on everyones LONG LONG list of mods they want to do/are doing to their trucks. From now one I will always have one in whatever I'm driving. It makes traveling the road safer, offroading easier, and gives you a piece of mind thats hard to explain.

Having reviewed this product as well, but from a completely different use case and install method, I find this to be quite accurate. Great product. I have several wolfbox products and would honestly recommend all of them.

It isnt so much the mounting as it is the width of the mirror. I believe they make it so wide so if you have it in triple observation mode there is enough screen to see all 3 views.

Also the slight "blockage" of dashcam view in my videos is due to my interior mounted light bar.

I think since wolfbox makes things sometimes specifically for jeeps, it gets forgotten that these mirrors are universal for any vehicle. Jeep windshields are small. But I’m guessing most buyers want a larger mirror for a car with a big screen for a windshield.

I personally solved the advanced safety partial view block by using the interior camera, but facing forward, mounted discreetly under the box. Since it’s not mounted on the glass, I can still lower the windshield.
