I used the word latch rather than lock because I'm not looking for security from theft.

I'm looking to retain the items inside in the event of a crash. Ive been keeping a couple of draw bars in the bed of the truck. (1-7/8 and 2" ball each) but would like to put them under the back seat. I'd rather not have two 15 lb pieces of solid steel stock flying around the car in the event of an accident.

Does anyone have any ideas for a way to secure the rear seat in the down position??

Thanks.

Not the seats, but there are several places you could run a small ratchet strap though and secure them with those.

True ratchet straps, not the ribbed cam lock style.

I agree that strapping the bars down would be the easier/better option, good cam locks cinched down properly would still be stronger than a latch on the seat. You could go with a JCR underseat storage box, and then attach a couple latches (like these 4PCS Latch Catch Cabinet Boxes Handle Toggle Lock Clamp Hasp Silver 4001 - - Amazon.com ) to secure the seat to the box...
