My dealership builds the AEV jeeps. I don't recall the prices but not cheap. Another local one builds the ugly black widow packages. Banks won't finance the whole price as the truck itself as it isn't actually worth that much...at least with the black widow version. I also never drop a $20k down payment to make it possible.

Welcome to the world of Rick Hendrick!
I won’t even step foot on a Hendrick dealership. My wife found a Honda Pilot she liked at the Hendrick Honda in south Charlotte. MSRP was $42k, marked up to $48k with dealer add ons. They wouldn’t budge on the price and became very combative, basically saying “if you’re not serious at that price, why would we want to haggle over it.” Suffice to say we droveand hour and half to another dealer and saved $9k!

$200 nitrogen. That’s one expensive air down….. ???
This cracks me up. The air we breath is 78% nitrogen. You can never get a tire to 100% nitrogen unless to mount the tire in a 100% nitrogen chamber. You tire is low on pressure. What you going to do? Carry a small nitrogen bottle around with you?

People Work?
I believe they use a machine that harvests the nitrogen from ambient air too.
And like someone said, that first air down is $200 gone.
It's good to know that I could put 37's on mine and get $80k for it. ?

Nitrogen filling costs continue to be the most ludicrous of dealer tactics. How is it not common knowledge to reject these fees?!?!
In 2013 ago my wife looked at new Camaro's at Chapman Chevy in Tempe, AZ. We walked the lot and found one in the back that JUST came off of the transport. Had not even gone through P.D.I. yet. At the time they marked up every new vehicle on the lot with a $2,100 "protection package". This package included Nitrogen fill, tinted windows, door edge plastic film and paint sealant. We were cash buyers so I asked them (being that none of this was done yet) if could we purchase the car without it. They said no. We walked away.

It was very hard to find a dealer in the Phoenix metro area that didn't have some ridiculous mark ups at the time. That was eleven years ago. We no longer live there but I can't even imagine what it is like today.

I ended up buying from Hendrick as there were no Jeeps in the area equipped like I wanted other than the one they had. We negotiated a price over the phone. They told me to come in with my trade-in so they could overpay. I walked in with an offer of $21,000 from KKB. They offered me $12,500. I didn't budge and they eventually got up to where they needed to be.

My wife was livid after a really bad experience purchasing a used Corvette from them.

Nitrogen fills. The biggest dealer scam ever put forth on the public.

So I went to my local dealership to set a date for the lift install and as I was walking out I noticed a lifted 2022 JTR. I checked it out so see how mine will eventually look and a large number caught my eye. I looked at the pricing sheet and my eyes widened. MSRP for the JTR alone was 61,000.... that's about normal, but then when I looked at how much the dealer mark up is for a MOPAR lift, ok-ish 37's and in my opinion some ugly wheels blew my mind. It kind of makes my blood boil knowing someone is going to buy this.

Not news. There are multiple threads on this very thing already, dating back a year.
It's out there, it happens. If you don't like it, don't buy it, is my motto.

ANYthing is worth what a buyer and seller agree it's worth regardless of your own opinion.

That way they aren't seen as marking up the MSRP, but it works out the same. Uninformed buyers just getting hosed.
Only getting hosed if the buyer thinks or believes they are. I don't see why people who would never buy such a thing are concerned.
Some want turnkey and believe the convenience is worth the money. They have it, they don't care, so they aren't getting hosed.

Well as you may know... nitrogen saves a lot of gas mileage esp. on lifted JTRs. Wouldn't leave home without it lol
Just put hydrogen in the tires. It in theory, it should make it lighter. And if the tire has a slow leak. It would be easy to find with a flame. When it goes BOOM! You found it.

Putting the questionable ethics of price gouging aside, the issue with this as I see it is simple...
If there are a handful of people willing to pay $30K over sticker for a Jeep, it screws the rest of the people that can't afford that. They'll just price everything else up too... maybe not as much, but how about tacking on another $7K for a Sport? Sure! Why not... someone will buy it.
Same thing with dealer-installed stuff. You come to a dealer somewhat expecting to pay a premium of aftermarket bits they install vs. your local mechanic. But if someone is willing to pay for that "convenience", it has a domino effect... even down to your local mechanic.
I'm not very mechanically inclined at all, so i usually pay someone else to do it. I don't mind paying for the convenience, expertise, and efficiency of some one that knows better, but these dealer practices are egregious and ultimately screws and disocrages most people that would be customers otherwise.

I agree 100%. When I was younger I worked for 4wheelParts. We did a lot of "dealership lift kits" on Tacoma's and F250's. We didn't see a penny of the mark up they would eventually place on those vehicles. Even today when I went to the dealership to schedule my lift install the price came out to $900.00 for install and alignment. If you add that cost to the lift and tires its about $5000.00. Having a $14,000 mark up over that is ridiculous. If they even had a 5-7 thousand dollar gain off it they would sell way more than waiting for the Big fish to come and take the one.
