Just asked my buddy (Manager of a Discount Tire) today about KO2s and Ridge Grapplers. Said he could do $370 each on the tires. Unfortuanley I am still looking at almost $2k with certs.
Now i could handle that price for a 37" Ridge Grappler....I wonder if it's purely location (TX vs. WI) that they're darn near $100 cheaper??

Picked up my Ridge Grapplers from Discount Tire yesterday.

And what did those set you back?

Mounted, balanced, certificates and new tpms 2200, very happy with the service and price.

Before people get all "I remember back in the day when tires cost a nickel" I'm just going to throw out that in 2008 I paid a little over a G for 4 245/45r18s. The fact that I can get 5 315/70r17s for 1207 today is wild to me. I get specialty tires (37s+) have gone a bit nutty, but the rest of the market seems relatively stable to me.
315/70/r17 bfg ko2 I paid 268.66 on 3/12/21. Same tire is 269 a tire. thats dead cost from a vendor. just wanted to agree that 37s and up seem to be a niche market that greed has overcome.

edit: part number 58424 BFG KO2 but they arent available. Could be part of the equation on price.

I don’t think greed has anything to do with it… supply and demand…. Look at the quantity of vehicles running a ~315/70r17 ball park around a 35” tire on a 17” wheel…. A ton more than the folks running 37-42” tires…. What’s that crappy saying that everyone thinks is “ugly”-
Gotta pay to play? Seriously though…. I already noted the obvious above. If the cost of tires is a cringe for 37>35’s… just stop… stick with 35’s. There is a significant decrease in longevity to parts once you take that tiny step up to a 37. - for those out there who want to counter and argue their sister cousin ran 40’s stock axles, no re gear, no truss just fine for 16 years in a JL…. Well there is always a ? I suppose… the grim reality is 37+ things are going to start to break parts quicker. It is what it is…. a lot of the things that break are going to cost more than the 37” tires that caused it. (Just my .02…..- random dude on the internet ?)

Well i called the local Discount Tire last night and had a less than stellar experience. I asked for pricing on the 37" ridge grapplers to confirm what their website said. The dude i talked with was not your typical salesman that was chipper to make a tire sale, in fact he made me feel like i was an inconvenience calling for a price. Pretty sure he laughed when i asked about a percentage off discount and told me that didn't exist either.

He became more of an a$$ when i brought up what @Nickb1907 said about the price he was given, basically called me a liar. He asked me where @Nickb1907 was located and I just said Houston TX (based on his sig) and he pulled up some Discount Tires in Houston and said their price was the same as his price here and that @Nickb1907 was BS'ing.

So, not sure I want to buy my tires there after that incident now even if i'm willing to choke down that price tag.

@Nickb1907 totally understand, i was just using you as an example of getting a price break since he clearly had no desire to do anything to make a sale. He said he would only price match with a full quote from another shop showing a complete breakout on pricing...and honestly, at that point I'm just going to go with the lower priced shop vs. run around town getting quotes.

I've never looked into pricing on tires this big before until I got my JTR and needless to say i'm in sticker shock.
$462 for a 37x12.5x17 Nitto Ridge Grappler at Discount Tire...is this really what it will cost to get into 37's per tire?!?!
Nittos are the most expensive tires really. That’s cheaper than they were a couple months ago actually.

They are, but I loved my 35s. Those things took a beating.

I wheeled the shit out of my Nittos. Never let me down. Hoping the Maxxis are just as good. They made great MTB tires.

If you’re not dead set on a particular tire, you can find a deal. If you’re dead set on a particular tire that’s popular…you’ve got to pay to play.
