Good looking truck. Im thinking about going this route for my tires. Is your Mojave stock height?I might be able to help out a bit here. I have previous experience with bfg KO 31x10r15 (Cherokee), Interco TrXus and Duratrac in 33x12.5r15 (TJ), Falcon Wildpeak 285/70r17 (JT) and Cooper STT Pro 35x12.5r17 (LJ).
I'm over the fat bulging tire look and wanted something more practical this time. I had been considering the AT3 35x11.5x17, unfortunately it was an impossible size to get in Canada at a reasonable price. Once I discovered the Baja Boss AT 255/85r17 I gave it a shot.
I just came back from a 2000+ km trip that went from Vancouver to Calgary and back, experiencing every type of road condition from a blizzard, to -43C to torrential downpour.
For the trip I had the tires aired up to 36psi cold. There was a lot of snow in the forecast and 4 adults, 2 dogs plus our gear would be on board for large stretches.
Snow traction was excellent. Driving at reasonable speeds for the conditions, I only noticed slight slippage twice. Once when on hard compact snow with an icy sheen at an intersection, and the second on a highway with loose snow on top of compact. Both times only a slight correction was needed. The tires inspired a lot of confidence, especially in 4x4, which was frequently in the heavy snow.
In the rain I noticed a large difference compared with the 12.5 wide tires. When hitting large patches of water the hydroplaning effect was far less than expected and in many cases, non existent.
While I can't do a direct comparison, I can say that the narrow size of the Baja Boss has advantages, especially in rain. As it is a hybrid AT tire with more aggressive lugs than the AT3, I would guess that it is also better in off road conditions.
If you are interested, my mileage from Calgary to Kelowna to Vancouver was 12.3L/100kms, which is roughly 19mpg. Not bad given the conditions. The tire weighs 64lbs. My Gladiator has 4.10 gears. Jscan was used to adjust the tire size.
