Had a little incident tonight. I was tired and distracted driving home from my son’s basketball practice, and didn’t see a big aluminum truck bed toolbox in the road ahead of us until last second. Swerved, but not enough, and clipped it. Looks like I have a small (around 1-2”) crack in bumper end, and a scuff on front right wheel. If I’d already swapped out to the mid-length or stubby bumpers I’ve been considering, the wheel would have taken the full brunt of impact. I figure the bumper spun the toolbox away for the most part. After this, I’m seriously considering spending more for an OEM steel clone. Can anybody change my mind?

No idea how fast you were going. But can you imagine what your suspension would look like if it did take the full force of that box?!

Did you at least pick up the aluminum for scrap value?
Glad y'all are ok

Easy peasy, pay more attention. Now you’ll understand what is at stake. ??

Glad you’re okay. Sorry, I cope by laughing at things that may not be funny.

About 65-70, right around the speed limit for a change. Yeah, that’s what has me thinking I’ll get a full width winch bumper!

You are not wrong! 44 years old, and this is the first time I’ve hit a road hazard. Caught me slipping. I’m so mad at myself already, and even more now that Free2Roam made me realize I SHOULD have picked it up for scrap!

Ha! Seems like everybody here in Missouri wants crazy money even for the plastic bumpers! Bumper isn’t bad enough to warrant replacement, but planning to upgrade to a winch bumper soon.

I don't have a new bumper for you. However, I do have a truck box sitting on the side of my house I've been meaning to get rid of. I'm in St. Louis if you want to get it for scrap. :)

Also, sorry about the damage done

Thanks for the offer, but I’m in Columbia, but far to be worth it. Say, you aren’t by chance on the Reloading discord, are you?

Was this with an OEM plastic bumper??
If so I’m impressed. Even the OEM steel bumper I wouldn’t think of as strong, not compared to like a Rock Hard or LOD or something.

The clone is okay, as is the aluminum one from I think MP Concepts. My issue is the additional parts to get what you already get out of other full size bumpers. Winch plate, hoops, light mounts, recovery hooks, etc. A nice LOD or similar would be more cost effective in my opinion.

Obviously it’s not bumpers you should be shopping, it’s driving lights!

Sound more like a convincing argument for better sleep habits. Or if that's not an option for you due to medical or personal conditions, a debilitating caffeine addiction.
