2021 Rubicon Emergency Brake Snap noise

I have a wicked snap noise when I apply my e brake. Usually once the vehicle is turned off and foot off the brake. I say usually because yesterday the snap happened before I took my foot off the brake. Truck has automatic tranny.

The truck doesn’t have to be on any incline or decline even on level ground.

I didn’t experience a snap per as but within a month of buying mine in April 21’ my e-brake handle was sloppy loose and made all sorts of noises. The dealer said the handle itself was bad and they ordered a new one that took 6 months to arrive. They claimed that it’s a common problem. I’m not convinced there was anything wrong with it. A month after installing the new one, it was loose again. I asked them to adjust it and they blew smoke. My truck would roll on slight inclines with it topped out. So I adjusted it myself and it’s been fine ever since. I’ve since changed dealerships.

If you remove the 4 circular panels on the front and rear of the center console it exposes the 10mm bolts. Remove these and you can lift up the rear of the console enough to see under it and examine the mechanism and reach the adjuster. You don’t need to remove the center console to adjust it. The rest of the system is under the truck but it’s pretty obvious where it is and you can follow it to the rear end. I would get a friend to help you observe what the mechanism is doing in both places. This may help you avoid the “could not replicate” bs if and when you take it to the dealer, if you can pinpoint the issue.

It’s also possible to route the rear track bar incorrectly over top or underneath (I can’t remember which) when replacing it when installing lift kit, which will obviously cause major issues.

is the noise one time, occasional, or all the time?

If it's one time i'm worried your cable came off the bracket that pulls it tight when the handle is yanked. easy enough to fix, but to prevent from happening in future you need to be more diligent about keeping your hand brake tightened when it constantly loosens itself. Recurring problem on gladiators and wranglers unfortunately. save yourself a LOT of time and learn how to tighten it yourself. i'd suggest 3/8 ratchet, 1 foot extension, and a 10mm deep socket.

If it's occasional, i'm worried your bracket that pulls the cable tight may have gotten damaged and sometimes when being pulled releases the bar that sits in the bracket.

if it's all the time i honestly have no idea.

Sounds like there's a deformity or break in the bracket or bar that connects the two lines with the bracket causing the tension in one or both of the lines to be released when the hand brake is applied. Firmly within warranty territory, but i'd pull up the center console at least partially to witness the issue yourself first before taking it to a dealer, otherwise they're going to waste your time with "could not replicate" shenanigans. Caveat: May not apply if you actually like your dealership.

If it’s what I think it is, it’s almost always easy to replicate it every several pulls of the brake lever. It’s the bracket, a quick, easy fix, but they’ll take care of for you. And they’re familiar with it because it’s been happening with the jeep since at least 2007.
