UPDATE FROM HOURLESS LIFE:

It has been awhile since we uploaded a video, but it has been with good reason.

On April 6th, we flew back to the United States for the first time since we started our global journey, It had been 554 days since we had been "home". While there we landed in Denver, drove to Seattle, then down to California, across to Flagstaff Arizona for Overland Expo West where we presented 13 times!, then back to Denver to fly out.

It was a whirlwind to say the least, but the focus was entirely on spending time with family and friends. On May 31st we flew back to Ecuador and picked up DAUNTLESS and headed to the Mindo Valley of Ecuador (which is pretty incredible btw) but I digress. In our video series we are still in Colombia....

This Sunday, June 11th we'll be releasing our next YouTube video publicly. Our upcoming video is about Salento and Valle de Cocora Colombia which is one of the most stunning places we've been in all of our travels.

I'm really happy with the way this video turned out. I've been stretching my editing skills with each video and this one incorporates some elements that although you may not notice too much of a difference, it took some effort and time on my end to figure out.

I'd like to say that our videos are getting tighter, more fluid, and easier to watch in full. The analytics behind the scenes on YouTube bear that out to be truth. It seems that a high percentage of people who start watching one of our videos, watch all the way through to the end. This is definitely encouraging to me.

Anyway, wanted to give you a quick update. You can expect to see a video from us every 1-2 weeks now that we are back on the journey. ~ Eric

Wow Robert. This is one of the saddest comments I've ever received. You must not know me that well.

If your goal with this comment was to discourage me, you've succeeded. Having said that I hope that wasn't your intent. I like to give the benefit of the doubt to others, and I'd like to think you'd do the same with me.

I'm happy to share the why of Patreon, if you are interested in reading. If you had asked me first, I would have explained as well.

Anyway, here goes:

Though my wife and I are not wealthy, we do not need the income from Patreon. With my pension from my 20 years of active duty military service and having sold our businesses, we don't have to do anything (including make videos or have a Patreon to sustain this journey indefinitely). Whether you believe this or not, we often donate to folks in need that we meet in our travels, and there are a lot of them out here. In addition we do our best to support people in need back home as God puts them on my wife and my heart.

We debated for a long time whether or not to even start a Patreon account because of the fact that we don't rely on the income. Overlanding full-time is not an easy thing to do. It is filled with challenges that most people would never anticipate, and I'm not talking about border crossings or cartels. I'm talking about the fact that we've been traveling full-time for 10 years, constantly on the move. And while this is by choice, and I fully own this, just like any other decision it has its consequences.

The biggest challenge to this lifestyle is the lack of consistency in community. I don't have that buddy I can call up and say, "Hey I've had a really rough week, want to go out and get a pizza?" or "Hey we're having a BBQ this weekend for the 4th, want to come over?" That consistency in community does not exist in my world. Everyone we ever meet we say goodbye to as we continue our drive around the world. This lack of consistency in community is hard. Very hard.

Patreon has become that consistent community for us. The folks there get to know us like no other and we are extremely transparent there with them. It has been cathartic for us to have it. So I get that it isn't for everyone and we're ok with that, but we want to invite anyone who cares enough to join us because it is important to us to fill that void of community who are with us country after country.

I'm not sure this makes sense, or the gravity of this issue I've created for myself is understood apart from living it full-time, but I assure you that the struggle is real.

Anyhow, my videos are not behind a paywall. I make about .05 per hour on YouTube with 21,000 subscribers. It takes me roughly 2-3 days away from my family to make just one video. I don't have to be on YouTube, it is just part of our family mission statement of Love. Explore. Study. Share. That share component is something we as a family agreed to do on this journey.

I'm sorry you aren't enjoying being a subscriber anymore, but I figured I'd at least explain the why of what you were addressing. Hope it makes sense.

Whoa! This was some sketchy but amazing overlanding in Colombia. We went off road through tunnels, across super high bridges, lost control of the rig in the mud, and crossed a washed out bridge too. I'm getting a little better at this editing thing and I hope you enjoy this journey with us through the Tatacoa Desert of Colombia.

This may have been the hardest few days of our overlanding journey so far. I was exhausted and short tempered with my family. But a moment on the drive hit me hard and gave me a serious gut check. I talk about it in the video as we cross into Ecuador.

So we're over here driving around the world and we make it to Ecuador. So we decided to go to the Galapagos Islands, because, well, the Galapagos!
And of course my wife gets jumped by a sea lion! I seriously can't make this stuff up.
