I was looking at used roll-ups and see different part numbers. One guy actually posted his early one won't work on my 2023. Wondering if it's possible.

I just had my oem roll up cover replaced under warranty. I noticed a difference between the the one that came with the JT, and the replacement. There is a difference in material on the cover.

I haven't paid attention to how it mounts at the front of the truck, but the rear is exactly the same.
Yes, the material is more of a vinyl on the 22 while the 20 was more of a fabric material.
I noticed the material/fabric difference as soon as I drove my 2020 in to pick up the new 2022.
Still 2 bolts attach it to the truck, never paid attention to the location of the bolts when I removed the cover so it was out of the way of my truck tent.

My replacement is just the opposite. More fabric than vinyl.

Interesting. The bracket is definitely the reason for specifying which build dates they're for, as it's important for installation, but I never knew the material changed. I wonder if they now make both in the newer material, which is likely the premium twill. If they "make" the older version at all that is, and not just burning through stock.

I would have guessed the older version is more like the standard soft top, and the newer like the premium twill soft top. And then @ShadowsPapa brings doubt by having the opposite experience.

For reference, the soft top options described by Mopar: "The Soft Top is made of either a tough, vinyl-coated cotton/poly blend or the new premium acrylic fabric providing thicker four-ply, tight, quieter ride."

The latter, premium twill, is fabric like to me. I've only seen the standard once, seemed more plasticy.

Here are pictures of my original, which was more black and definitely a more "flannel" type finish, maybe that's what ya'll call twill. Never had a soft top Jeep so can't say what matches.

First tonneau cover first, my 2020 JT ->

That 2020 is definitely the early model with the bolt at the bottom of the bracket, and looks like the "premium twill."

And the 2022 certainly looks different. More gray, more vinyl like, which may be the "sailcloth" they use on the the standard soft tops. Never knew the tonneaus came in different material though, there aren't additional part numbers that I see.

I bought a rollup from a 21 Rubicon (later model tonneau bracket), and it's like your 2020. Premium twill, strong, but a flannel like quality to the exterior touch. The cross hatch pattern is the underside. Top side is the black part at the bottom of the pic, probably a little fuzzier since it's used.

I also just bought a premium soft top. Less fuzzy, but you can see the top side on the top of the pic. Again, the cross hatch is the underside. Don't have the truck yet, so everything is just rolled up for now. Will see better comparison later, but had always heard they're the same material.

Frankly, I really was disappointed in the change. I liked the darker black and better look of the first one on the 2020.
This one is functionally fine - no complaints. It works fine, seals fine, no flopping or waving or blowing up in the wind. Never had rain get into it - it's all the looks. The first one just looked "richer" to me.

Yes, the first one, the "premium twill" as you say, was ordered with the truck in October 2019 and received November 14th, 2019 so it's definitely a "first half of 2020 model year" build.
My 222 was build in the last week of June, 2022.

Your description, definitions, whatever, definitely sound right, sounds like a good description of the tonneau covers I've had/have.
So I guess I was right when I've said my first one might be "twill".
My wife is a blue-ribbon quilter, so talk about cotton fabrics, I can keep up. Some of the other stuff - not so much.

So from what I have found out, they changed the mount hole locations, you can use an old one, but have to add some nutserts for it to mount to. I had no idea about the material, but going from black twill to black diamond I would be really mad!

I have a 22 Mojave and bought a used mopar roll up. The mounting holes didn’t line up. I had to make it work with some extra hardware. It was such a steal on price that I made it work and have had zero issues with it.

Maybe I should look for a good used, or take-off early twill cover.
I've got the tool and nutserts here anyway as a matter of my normal stock of stuff.
Then I would have the black twill on my truck and this other as a spare. So anyone in Iowa wanting to dump their twill cover?

We need some reports of recent 2023 buyers who got the rollup directly from the factory.

Though I have heard some prefer the standard soft top when it comes to mud. So some would likely prefer the same in tonneau if that's true.

I have a twill bestop sunrider and had a twill top on my jk. I would say nothing beats the look sand feel of the twill. It's super black, repels water and doesn't stain from mud like black diamond does.

Are you saying the the older roll up does line up with holes in the bed but the holes are not threaded and the new roll ups line up with threaded holes?
