Yup, thats what we do.
Snatch the tent out (Napier w/the bottom) with the mattress and sleeping bags still inside.
Tent camped many years and really prefer the trunk tent, being elevated and out of the dirt/dust/mud of ground camping.
Feel a bit safer too when the coyotes and bears come around.
ya my safty is a 200lb cane corso and a 9mm ???

Would it allow access to my charging ports in the truck -picture in post above - is there enough space to squeeze cables down the side to plug into the 12v and USB ports??

Would it work with my Rightline tent - which is really sloped on the tailgate - it's not a large tent.
I used the Napier bed tent, it has a floor to it. The rightline does not so you should be able to access the 12v and usb ports. The napier also was sloped at the opening and we did not have any issues.

I like this cot - https://www.camptime.com/collections/cots/products/green-table-with-adjustable-legs
packs up compactly, sets up with a firm top, has a sleeve to hold a sleeping pad of your choice. Room for storage underneath and room to sit up in the tent and still keep tools and whatnot stored in the bed of the truck. If you’re travelling by your lonesome it’s everything you need. Did I mention light weight?

I bought a set of these off Amazon on a recommendation from @Mules . Perfect amount of padding, fits well, modular, originally bought them for my off road camper but doubled up as a bed mattress.

Thanks but you likely missed my questions here.
I have had the Rightline tent for going on 3 years. I have no issues with that, knowing it has no bottom is one reason I bought it.
The questions are relating to mattress and a mattress blocking either partially, completely, or not at all, access to those ports.

i like the Rightline tent - but I also like the tents others have shown so looks like if I ever swap tents or destroy this one, I've got a ton of options and plenty of members here have a lot of experience with the various tents.
This is the place to come to ask about tents, that's for sure!

Yeah, my thing is I'm not "thrilled" with the coleman I have and am hoping to find something wider, but that won't block the ports (or - at least not so badly I can't use them) and allow me, a guy who rolls over a lot while sleeping, to not roll off the edge of a mattress, and something long enough but not so long it won't work in the rightline tent (which admittedly slopes a lot at the tailgate.)

I know - I'm camping on the cheap - I admit it!

I would love to still use my tent, camping on the cheap as you mentioned would be awesome, but my wife, not so much after coming out of a 35' fifth wheel... I am doing good getting her into a 12' overland trailer. Since my tent had that floor I couldn't access the ports regardless was what I meant to write but my brain was ahead of my fingers, sorry. Looking at the thickness of the mattress I think but not 100% sure that one would have somewhat decent access to those ports.

I use a short (Height) Cot with a 2" Memory Foam 28" wide mattress/Bedroll from Amazon. Plenty of Room to sit up inside the Rightline Tent and store stash under the cot, plus have room for stuff on the other side of the the truck bed, like PowerStation and Cpap setup. No build setup, with a BedRug.

Edit for photo.
