Freezing will help. Torching brings other problems. A good ball joint press is what you need.

I will be renting a press.
Just throwing this out there. Ball joints aren’t hard to change…. But it’s one of those tasks that really has zero enjoyment/satisfaction…. Hope you are going with something that can be rebuilt in place vs pressing in and out…. ???

Only rebuild in place option I've seen are the American Iron Ball Joint Deletes. Are there others?

Torching the axle C, not the knuckle.
Still brings problems. The heat changes the metal properties some what. Making it softer. And if you heat for installing. The heat will transfer into the ball joint. Any plastic inside the ball may get damaged. You're not dealing with ball joints that have lived for 5+ years in the rust belt. So a ball joint press should be all you need.
