Hey,

Has anyone else noticed the poor paint coverage around the door hinges on their Jeeps? I have owned several Jeeps, from CJs to my 2021 Gladiator, and have never noticed the lack of paint coverage around the door hinges. You figure as much as these things cost, you could get complete coverage.

Don't have that problem. Take it to the dealer and have them fix it. After a few trips through the woods you won't notice that over the pinstripes.

Wow, that looks thin - and dry.
Are these painted using electrostatic methods? If so - they've got a problem. I know with powder coating it can be tough to get the voltage correct for recesses or even points and peaks due to how the electric field behaves.

Yeah - that's a paint defect, IMO. Talk to dealer.

The dealer will most likely make it worse than it is now.

How?

Most dealers farm that sort of thing out - at least around here. They either send it out, or have a collision center.

I'd want that noted, recorded, proof that I went in with the defect so that if anything happens in the future, it can be proven it was brought to their attention. At least force them to create a real work order on it - then if they close it unrepaired, you have written record and names.

It's definitely thin and dry. I have to say I am amazed that the robot missed it. Another strange thing is my bed is not square. I tried to install a hard tonneau cover from MOPAR and could not get it to fit. I checked the squareness of my bed, and sure enough, it wasn't square. I wonder if this truck failed some quality control, and they sent it out anyway.

Paint quality these days is horrible. I stupidly traded in a 2021 Ram for my JT and that thing had paint runs at the bottom below the door. It was white so I only caught it while I was doing maintenance underneath. Definitely bring it in and see what they say. I will say, it helps to bring it in to the dealer you bought it from if you can.

And it's not just Jeep that has paint issues. The 2017 GMC Canyon I traded for the JT had grit, fisheyes, and dust in the paint ALL over. Dealer ended up cutting and buffing the entire truck and adding another coat of clear, as there were 5+ defects in all the panels... worst was in the passenger front A pillar, the grit was so bat there it would scrape skin off...

The Wrangler doors have the most complicated door paint process for any vehicle. As it has exposed hinges the door is painted, then the painted door hinges are fitted and the whole door and hinges with bolts are painted again. This doesn't forgive your vehicles poor finish though.

My 2020 Gladiator Rubicon had the door hinges bolted direct to bare metal door skins and then painted from factory, which caused filiform corrosion to form under the paint. These doors were repaired and repainted through the dealer.
